The movie’s first full trailer was revealed in late November 2024 and invited us into a colorful cube-shaped world. It also gave us a proper look at its cast but one face remained noticeably absent.
If you’re a fan and have seen this teaser then you might be left wondering where Alex is. In fact, lots of people online have been wondering whether she’ll appear in the movie at all.
While lots is still unconfirmed, here’s what we know so far…
Who is Alex in Minecraft?

For those unfamiliar with this world, Alex is one of the primary playable character skins from the Minecraft games. She’s traditionally depicted as a female character with pale skin, orange shoulder-length hair and blue eyes.
Alex wears a green tunic with a belt, brown pants and boots. She is an adventurer and the counterpart to the game’s primary male character Steve.
Alex was the second playable character skin to be introduced within Minecraft and one of nine default characters. According to reports, the name ‘Alex’ was selected due to its androgyny which was reflective of the game’s diverse player base.
Is Alex in A Minecraft Movie?

So far, it’s unconfirmed whether Alex will appear in A Minecraft Movie. Her counterpart Steve will be played by School of Rock star Black.
That said, due to Alex’s prominence in the Minecraft games, many are hopeful that the character will appear in Hess’s movie in some capacity.
We know that A Minecraft Movie will feature a number of actors, some of which have character details. Fast X’s Jason Momoa will play Garrett, with Wednesday’s Emma Myers playing Natalie and newcomer Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry.
Meanwhile, Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks will play Dawn.
We don’t have all the details on how they fit into the movie’s story but judging by the trailer, they’re newcomers to the Minecraft world. Together, they work with Black’s Steve to “embark on a magical quest.”
Other names are set to appear. These include former Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon, The White Lotus’s Jennifer Coolidge and comedians Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry.
Any of these names could potentially be playing Alex in some form or another. However, nothing is confirmed thus far.
What have fans said about Alex in A Minecraft Movie?
While we sift through available information, fans are more optimistic about seeing Alex in A Minecraft Movie – albeit with a catch.
“I’m pretty sure alex will come in a movie named “Another Minecraft Movie”” said one Reddit user, suggesting Alex’s presence will be used to tease a potential movie sequel.
“Sequel bait at the end of the movie,” agreed another, adding: “Jack Blacks Steve stays back in the MC world, a random portal appears and out steps, idk, Scarlet Johanson or whomever in a Ginger wig.”

Meanwhile, others were convinced that her importance in the Minecraft universe guaranteed her a spot in the film.
“I can’t imagine she won’t be used at all,” reasoned a user named Akluthe. They even went on to list ways the character could be introduced.
“She’s a character that appears later in the movie, Steve doesn’t mention her because they are no longer on good terms.
“Steve believes she is dead, only for her to turn up alive later.
“Alex is actually the villain.
“Sequel bait. “Get in, Idiot. We’re going to the Nether.” Right after the credits, of course.”
As for whether any of these ideas will come to pass, we’ll have to wait and see.
