- Doyle Archer was recognised by Guiness World Records earlier this year
- Has driven trucks for more than 60 years, clocking up some 5.5 million miles
- Has no thoughts of retiring just yet

The oldest truck driver in the world may be north of 90, but he has no plans to put the brake on his career just yet.
Official recognition
American Doyle Archer currently has the title of oldest truck/lorry/HGV driver (male) in the Guiness Book of World Records, having been verified as 90 years and 55 days old on February 2. He has driven for Coomes Inc in Philipsburg, Kansas for the past 20 years.
Archer has been on the road for more than 60 years and is reckoned to have covered about 5.5 million miles in that time. But as he told Guiness World Records: “I do not plan to retire any time soon. As long as my health holds, I will keep driving.”
The quality of his driving hasn’t deteriorated with age either – Archer was recently name a ‘Million Mile Safe Driver’ having driven for 1 million miles without experiencing an incident.
Over the years, Archer says he has hauled anything and everything that can be put on the back of a truck, from livestock to furniture to fuel.
All over the country
He has also been all over North America, driving across 48 states – including Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles, a journey of more than 2,000 miles – and five Canadian provinces.
He said his favorite journeys have been ones where he can see mountain views, scenic prairies and timber forests.
He started out in the lumber and grain industry before starting on his trucking career in 1961 and has stuck with it ever since. He added that he was honoured to be recognised as the oldest truck driver in the world.
