- The 2025 Met Gala happened on 5 April
- This year’s theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, focusing on suits and tailoring
- However, there were many strange looks on the carpet this year

The 2025 Met Gala was on 5 May, and there were some strange, weird, and wonderful looks. This year’s theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, with the dress code being tailored for you. The exhibition this year at the museum focuses on black archival pieces and suits, a big theme on this year’s carpet.

One of the big movements and focuses was on black designers and homage to black people from the past, and dandyism. Black dandyism refers to a man who would stand out by looking particularly good and well-groomed in his fashion and appearance. There became an emphasis on sharp tailoring and redefining pieces to make the clothes talk for themselves.
Many celebrities played on that at the 2025 Met Gala, but there were also many WTF moments. Stay tuned to see the weirdest outfits from this year’s event.
Strange Outfits from the 2025 Met Gala
1. Amelia Gray Hamlin

Model Amelia Gray Hamlin probably had arguably one of the weirdest and most mismatched looks of the night. Hamlin is a model, so she is used to editorial fashion, but this bright red lacy disaster by Valentino takes the cake.
Furthermore, the headscarf, which looks like a durag, is not the right thing to wear to an event celebrating black style. All around, this look is strange and does not fit the “tailored for you” style at all.
2. André 3000

As much as we hate to say this about one of this year’s co-chairs, it has to be done. Outkast star André 3000 wore a bespoke boilersuit with umbrella embroidery, a twisted bolero with a striped rugby top by Burberry in collaboration with Benji Bixby.
Now, while he did play into the dandy theme and was different from everybody else’s, we just can’t get behind the grand piano. The piano on his back takes away from the look and makes it feel like a caricature, which, as a chair of the event, you do not want.
3. Lisa

While we love Lisa in Louis Vuitton, we just can’t with her underwear or micro shorts here. The embroidered black blazer is stunning, as are the tights and shoes, but you lose us at the shorts and bag.
If there were an event not to wear a monogrammed LV bag to, it would be the 2025 Met Gala, because it’s just tacky.
Furthermore, the shorts, although cute, whose idea was it to print Rosa Parks’ face onto them? What does that have to do with the theme? Not the best idea, to say the least. However, we’re not sure if that was Rosa Parks, so take that information with a grain of salt!
4. Hailey Bieber

Honestly, this outfit might be alright for an award show or Fashion Week, but not the Met Gala. Although Hailey Bieber looked chic in the Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket, the outfit was a disaster. Pairing that with black wedged heels, tights, and an overload of diamonds does not give anything.
Furthermore, in terms of the theme, this is the most basic way you can fit the dress code. There is no imagination there or visible homage to dandyism that we can see.
We know Bieber is about minimalism in street style, but for the Met Gala, you can dress it up.
5. Damson Idris

While actor Damson Idris looked striking in his three-piece red suit by Tommy Hilfiger, we can’t with the Hilfiger racing suit. While the racing suit reveal was nice and fitting for the drama of the Met Gala, it had nothing to do with the theme. The reason he wore the racing suit was to nod to his upcoming film F1, where he plays Joshua Pierce.
We understand the reason for doing it, but at the Met Gala, where the celebration should be focused on fashion, it is inappropriate. However, his three-piece suit was stunning.
6. Sabrina Carpenter

As much as we love Sabrina Carpenter’s bodysuits from her Short and Sweet tour, this burgundy look is missing some pants. While the custom-burgundy Louis Vuitton tailcoat is gorgeous and on theme, it’s the pinstripe bodysuit we can’t get over.
Yes it may fit the “tailored for you” dress code with Carpenter’s style in mind, but she could’ve been very innovative at this year’s Met and worn something that is not a bodysuit. Overall, it feels like a cheap and boring attempt to meet the theme.
7. Shakira

Is Shakira stunning? Yes. Is this outfit also stunning? Yes. On theme? No. Shakira wore a custom-made Prabal Gurung powder pink gown that is more prom than tailored for you.
Although her curly hair matched the aesthetic, we can’t help but think a gown like this is better for the Grammys or an award show. This does not look like it is fashion forward, but rather some archival gown from the 80s, especially with those black gloves.
8. Natasha Poonawalla

Honestly, businesswoman Natasha Poonawalla went all out with her Manish Malhotra look, but it missed the mark. Instead of looking dandy, she looks mismatched and over-the-top, and honestly, the outfit is giving Mary Queen of Scots.
While it may be tailored and show off her incredible figure, this outfit just does not fit the theme, and it’s too busy.
