WWE 2K25 will not only serve as merely the latest instalment of a long-running franchise. 2K have unveiled the latest feature which will evolve the series into a sprawling, interactive universe. Welcome to The Island.

The Island – a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S exclusive – will see players immerse themselves in quests and storylines across several WWE-themed districts. All in the hope of winning the favour of Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

A somewhat similar experience to The City in 2K’s NBA series, only with more powerbombs, chair shots and shouting “ACKNOWLEDGE ME” at random passers-by, The Island sees players take their created characters on an adventure across the four aforementioned districts, each offering a unique atmosphere and challenges along the way.

The four districts are, per 2K’s Ringside Report:

Hero HQ

“Hero HQ is a bright bastion of all that is good. Stand tall and celebrate the top WWE stars that overcome all odds and stand up for the little guy. However, make sure to stay vigilant—for some reason this area is constantly under attack from WWE villains, who undertake all kinds of tactics to gain power on The Island.”

The Arcade of Tomorrow

“The technological haven that is The Arcade of Tomorrow shines as a fusion of tradition and innovation. This space is a mecca for all gamers, comic book lovers, and the pop-culture obsessed.”

The Temple of the Ancestors

“Rising from The Island as a colossal testament to power and reverence, The Temple of the Ancestors stands as a tribute to the importance of Lucha culture and acknowledging the wrestling greats who paved the way for the Superstars of today.”

The Deadlands

“A portal to the supernatural, The Deadlands stands in restless defiance of its own existence. Most living dare not tread—yet should you cross its threshold, the haunting cathedral overlooks a graveyard that conceals many secrets… and whispers your name.”

We don’t know about you, but taking our created superstar through a lucha libre temple and a portal to the supernatural sounds A LOT more fun than simply working your way through a bunch of matches in NXT in a standard career mode (no offence, career modes, but when you can have your own virtual champion raising hell in a portal to the undead or an ancient Mexican church, the game done changed, quite frankly).

During our recent hands on preview of WWE 2K25, we were not able to take The Island for a trial run – although we still had several hours of fun throwing Dominik Mysterio into every barricade and announce table with Rhea Ripley- but early impressions of the latest advancement in the series from 2K has us chomping at the bit to lose our virtual selves in The Island, fending off heels from Hero HQ and cutting promos in haunted cathedrals. And with brands like Nike and Jordan to deck out your CAS in, you can be dripped out while doing it. Which is important when you’re brawling through graveyards and futuristic, Tokyo-inspired arcades.
