- Saturday Night’s Main Event is back on NBC this weekend
- WWE are going ‘old school’ with the show, which originally debuted in the ’80s
- Cody Rhodes vs Kevin Owens for the WWE Title headlines

Saturday Night’s Main Event is back on the air for the first time since 2008 and WWE have stacked the card for the revival of the 1980’s favourite.
While the relaunch of the quarterly prime time special between 2006-2008 didn’t fare so well, there are far higher hopes the latest iteration will enjoy similar success to the show’s original run between 1985-1992.
For starters, WWE Hall of Famer Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura will be returning to provide commentary for the event, much like he did during it’s ’80s heyday. The ‘Predator’ and ‘Running Man’ star, who was also once Governor of Minnesota, has confirmed in a recent appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast that it’s not just his presence that will be a throwback to the ’80s golden era.
“What’s exciting about it–and I got the word on this–the whole show is going to be a throwback. That means it’s going to look like it did before. The wrestlers are not coming down that ramp. They’re not coming with all the lights and spectacular. They’re coming in through the crowd like the old days. That’s why they brought me back.”
Ventura also confirmed that there would be four Saturday Night’s Main Event specials a year, with WWE going all out to make the first one back a show to remember.
Where is Saturday Night’s Main Event Being Held?
Much like the first ever Saturday Night’s Main Event, this weekend’s special will be taking place at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
When is Saturday Night’s Main Event Taking Place?
The first SNME back is happening this Saturday, 12 December, 2024. A second special has also been announced for next month, on 25 January, 2025 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
What Time is Saturday Night’s Main Event Starting?
This weekend’s SNME will air at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central and 5pm Pacific. In the United Kingdom, this means a start time of 1am on 15 December.
What Channel is Saturday Night’s Main Event on?
SNME will be broadcast live on both NBC and Peacock in the United States. For UK fans the show will be live on WWE’s official YouTube channel.
What is the Match Card for Saturday Night’s Main Event?
The current match card at the time of writing features Cody Rhodes defending his Undisputed WWE Title against challenger Kevin Owens, in a rematch from Bash In Berlin, earlier this year. Gunther will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor and former champion Damian Priest. Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, fresh off celebrating 200 days as champion, will defend her crown against IYO SKY while Sami Zayn will go one-on-one with the recently returned Drew McIntyre.
As with all WWE shows, the card is subject to change and, on top of the four announced matches we should likely expect a couple of major promos or angles to take place in Long Island, this Saturday night.
The return of SNME is further proof of WWE’s surging popularity over the last couple of years. The company have been breaking records left, right and centre since the TKO merger with UFC in 2023. The promotion’s programming drops onto Netflix as part of a super heavyweight $5 billion deal, in January. Not only that, but WWE recently announced a huge 12-date European tour ahead of WrestleMania 41, next year, taking in nine countries across two-and-a-half weeks. The tour will include Monday Night Raw emanating from Brussels, Glasgow and London, while SmackDown will come live from Barcelona, Bologna and London.
