The 2025 SAG Awards are among the most important nights in the Hollywood awards season. It is the most prestigious night in the industry’s labour union, SAG-AFTRA.
While known for also celebrating television, they are largely considered a window into who will be storming to success at the Oscars. This is because the biggest voting block is the acting branch of the union.

Last year, the big winners on the movie front included Oppenheimer, the Christopher Nolan-directed epic about J. Robert Oppenheimer. This film was also the big winner at the 2024 Academy Awards.
On the telly front, The Bear, The Last of Us and Succession swept big.

When are The 2025 SAG Awards?
February 23 is when the 31st annual Screen Actor Guild Awards are due to take place. The red carpet will be laid out at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
How can you watch The 2025 SAG Awards?
Like last year, the ceremony will be broadcast live on Netflix.
Who is nominated?
The movie musical Wicked and the series Shogun lead the respective film and TV halfs. They both secured five nominations each.
They are trailed by the Bob Dylan biopic and The Bear, who both earnt four nods.

When were the nominations announced?
They were announced on 8 January. They were supposed to be announced in a live stream hosted by Joey King and Cooper Koch on 8 January via Netflix’s YouTube channel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, this was cancelled because of the fires ravaging parts of Los Angeles.
Proceedings will also include SAG Award committee members Jason George and Elizabeth McLaughlin announcing the Best Stunt Ensemble category.
The Nanny star and SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher will begin the broadcast.
Who is hosting The SAG Awards?
Kristen Bell was named as the host of the ceremony. The Frozen Star already did the honours in 2018. Along with this, she is a speculated nominee for her star turn in the Netflix series Nobody Wants This opposite Adam Brody.
Who is presenting?
No word about who will be handling proceedings at this year’s ceremony has been given yet.
However, last year saw some iconic moments going viral. Examples include a mini The Devil Wears Prada reunion when Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt presented the Best Actor award.
Who is this year’s SAG Awards lifetime achievement award winner?
Jane Fonda has snagged the 2025 SAG Lifetime Achievement Award for her nearly seven decades working in Hollywood. Her vast and varied career has included films like Barbarella, Kloot, 9 to 5 and telly series like Grace and Frankie.
Outside of acting, Fonda has also made a name for herself as an activist. She has rallied against the Vietnam war, the climate crisis and the struggle for gender equality.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to be this year’s recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award,” she said in October last year.
“I have been working in this industry for almost the entirety of my life, and there’s no honour like the one bestowed on you by your peers. SAG-AFTRA works tirelessly to protect the working actor and to ensure that union members are being treated equitably in all areas, and I am proud to be a member as we continue to work to protect generations of performers to come.”
What is special about The 2025 SAG Awards?
The union’s big, prestigious award ceremony is the only one that exclusively honours acting talent. Ever since its 1995 debut, the 13 categories celebrate actors and actresses.
