Last week, the 28 Years Later trailer dropped, inviting viewers back into a post-apocalyptic world that had been long-ravaged by hoards infected with the Rage virus.
The teaser caused quite a stir thanks to its eerie and unsetting audio track which set the scene perfectly for a return to the world Boyle first introduced us to in 2002’s 28 Days Later.

The trailer also got people interested in revisiting Boyle’s original movie. However, finding it online proved impossible as it was unavailable on streamers and not accessible via digital or Blu-Ray.
Not long afterwards, a website popped up that allowed fans to enter their details to be the first to know when 28 Days Later gets a digital release. Now, the film has finally secured exactly that.
Why isn’t 28 Days Later streaming anywhere?

After the 28 Years Later trailer dropped, fans were disappointed to learn that 28 Days Later wasn’t available on any streaming service.
The reasons behind this are both simple and mundane. Boyle’s original movie was financed by Fox Searchlight Pictures who retained the rights to the film. These then transferred to Disney when the company acquired Fox in 2019 but the film remained missing from streamers.

Visit Disney+ today and you’ll find the film’s sequel, 28 Weeks Later. However, 28 Days Later is nowhere to be found.
In early 2024, the rights to 28 Days Later were bought by Sony at auction but the film continued to avoid streamers. Now, Sony has set a release date and fans will finally be able to legally watch 28 Days Later at home.
When is 28 Years Later released?

28 Years Later will hit cinemas on 20 June 2025.
The film is directed by Boyle who helmed 28 Days Later but skipped its 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later. That film was directed by Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
The long-awaited sequel will reunite Boyle with his 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland alongside its star, Cillian Murphy. Murphy played Jim in the first film, a bike courier who awakens from a coma to discover Britain has succumbed to a deadly virus.
The film will also feature a starry ensemble cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Joy, Jodi Comer and Ralph Fiennes.
