- 28 Years Later trailer features a mysterious figure
- Many were convinced it was original movie star Cillian Murphy
- According to The Guardian, it’s not

28 Years Later dropped its first trailer this week and it immediately caught people’s attention.
One of the big takeaways from the short teaser was the fate of the first film’s hero Jim, played by Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy.
Amid snippets of new characters and plenty of blood-thirsty infected people, the trailer for director Danny Boyle’s new film contained a short moment with a familiar face.

At around the 1.53 mark a figure rises from a field – one that looks suspiciously like Murphy.
However, if it was indeed Jim, he’s seen better days.
28 Years Later will reportedly show us how the film’s Rage virus has evolved. This led many to speculate that Jim could now find himself a carrier of this unfortunate pathogen.
However, these rumors have now been squashed just as quickly as they spread. We now know the real identity of this gaunt figure – and it isn’t Murphy.
Is Cillian Murphy in the 28 Years Later trailer?
No, according to The Guardian, the mystery figure is actually an art dealer-turned-actor named Angus Neill.
The outlet has revealed that Boyle promised him a role in the new movie – and this was it.

“Danny told me he’d always had me in mind for the role. So we met up, hit it off, and I agreed to take part,” Neill explained to The Guardian. “On set he has an extraordinary ability to hypnotize you, and working with him on the film was a very, very intense experience.”
So there you have it. It looks like we’ll all have to wait a little longer to discover exactly what happened to Murphy’s character Jim.
When is 28 Years Later released?

28 Years Later will hit cinemas in America and the United Kingdom on 20 June 2025. It stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes alongside Murphy who reprises his role from 2002 original 28 Days Later.
The film will be followed by a sequel directed by Nia DaCosta, the same filmmaker behind the recent Candyman horror remake.
While little is currently known about the sequel, we do know that it will be called 28 Years Later Part 2: The Bone Temple. Intriguing.
