• 706 people with the first name Kyle descended on the American town of Kyle, Texas, to break the world record for  the ‘largest same name gathering’
  • Sadly, the attempt was futile – but revelers still had a great day out at the Kyle Fair
  • The record remains upheld for the town of Kupres in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where 2325 people called Ivan gathered in 2017

A gaggle of geese, a flamboyance of flamingos, a collection of… Kyles?

We’re unsure what to call them either – but when 706 people with the name ‘Kyle’ all descended on the town of Kyle, Texas, on May 18, we thought someone ought to come up with a name for the group.

While it would have been a freaky coincidence, the Kyles actually flocked to the town of the same moniker in an attempt to break a world record.

Wearing t-shirts declaring ‘Hi, I’m Kyle’, the Kyle fair – dubbed a ‘Tex-travaganza’ – hoped to earn recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records, for the ‘largest same name gathering’.

And while organizers pulled in an impressive number, the town’s fifth attempt to bag the top prize was still not enough.

Back in 2017, 2325 people called Ivan flocked to the town of Kupres in Bosnia-Herzegovina for music and a mass – a number that almost matched the town’s population of 2,800, and a record that has still gone unbeaten.

Speaking before this year’s try, event manager Claudia Rocha said, “Last year, we were blown away by the amount of Kyles who showed up in honor of their namesake.

“Nearly 1,500 Kyles answered the call, but we need even more Kyles to break the record in 2024.

“Kyles, you’re our only hope to bring the Guinness World Record for the largest same-name gathering, first-name-only, to American soil and firmly in the hands of Kyles worldwide.”

‘We’ll bring more Kyles with us next year!’

While their latest attempt may have been futile, the Kyle Fair – which takes place in the town situated between Austin and San Antonio, which are home to more than 12,000,000 people combined – was still a roaring success.

A day consisting of funfair rides, live bands, and a drone show, as well as margarita, fajita and ribs competitions, chants of ‘Kyle, Kyle, Kyle’ could reportedly be heard from the same t-shirt wearing crowds.

And it seems that the Kyles are not giving up.

In a bid to improve their game next year, one attendee said, “We’re all going to contact at least two Kyles and bring them with us!”
