- Ellen DeGeneres has relocated to the UK after Donald Trump won the US election
- DeGeneres had endorsed Kamala Harris in the US presidential election
- It follows DeGeneres saying in her Netflix special that she was quitting showbiz

Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly left the US for the UK with her wife Portia de Rossi in a move that is apparently related to Donald Trump being re-elected US President.
The pair, who have been married since 2008, have lived in Montecito, California since 2019. They have now put their estate on the market and are “never coming back”, according to sources.
They have moved to the Cotswolds, a rural area of south-west England. Around two hours’ drive from London, it is a popular spot for celebrities to settle when they want to get away from big cities. DeGeneres and de Rossi reportedly were seen at British TV host Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog, in the area.
If Trump won, DeGeneres and de Rossi wanted to “get the hell out” of America
DeGeneres and de Rossi were reportedly “very disillusioned” by the prospect of Trump spending a second term in the White House. Consequently, they planned to “get the hell out” of the country if he were to win. They purchased their new home before the election took place but Trump’s re-election pushed them to make the move permanent.
Furthermore, DeGeneres had endorsed Kamala Harris, writing in a social media post in August: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.” She had also donated to Harris’s campaign.
“After my Netflix special, I’m done”
DeGeneres to the UK comes after she said in her recent Netflix special For Your Approval – filmed on her final stand-up tour – that she was “done” with entertainment.
In addition, the special sees her address the bullying allegations made against her in a Buzzfeed News 2022 report, which spelt the end of her talk show after 19 years on the air. Employees accused executives of creating a “toxic workplace” environment rife with alleged incidents of sexual misconduct, racism and bullying.
“I decided to take up gardening,” DeGeneres said in the special. “I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what’s been going on… Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business … Yeah, the ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.
“Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f— yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”
