- Squid Game season 3 debuts 27 June 2025
- New imagery teases a darker season
- The show’s second series is now available to watch

Squid Game season 3 is nearly here and will debut on Netlix on Friday 27 June 2025.
Meanwhile, Squid Game season 2 is now available and already breaking viewing records for Netflix.
Ever since the show first hit the streamer in 2021, the world has become Squid Game obsessed. This sinister series follows a group of unfortunate gamblers who find themselves trapped in a deadly game. There’s a big money prize up for grabs but in order for it to grow, players need to die.

Cue a range of colorfully deceptive playground games, each with a deadly twist. Those who emerge victorious survive to play another round. Those who fail to complete tasks… well, they aren’t as lucky.
Squid Game season 2 broke Netflix records, becoming the streamers’ most-watched non-English language show of all time. After a short delay, Squid Game season 2 was finally given the green light (apologies for anyone triggered by that), with Dong-hyuk returning as director.
As if that wasn’t good enough, Netflix confirmed that a third and final season will be shot back-to-back with its second outing, with series star Lee Jung-jae back for both.

When is Squid Game’s final season released?

Squid Game season 3 will debut on Friday 27 June 2025 on Netflix worldwide. The news was confirmed by the streamer in late January.
The show’s first and second seasons are both available to binge while you wait.
Before we received this confirmation, director Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that the show’s finale should be with us “sooner than you expect.”
The filmmaker shared the news during a chat with The Hollywood Reporter on the Golden Globes’ red carpet.

The social media post came with a teaser video showing us a new robot named Chul-su. We’re sure he’s not as nice as he looks.
However, the same post issued by Netflix Korea came with additional information that pointed to a 27 June 2025 release date for Squid Game season 3.
The post was quickly made private – but not before fans took a few screengrabs and shared them online.

What will happen in Squid Game season 3?

Considering Squid Game season 2 has yet to be released, it’s still too early to tell what might happen in Squid Game season 3.
However, new imagery suggests that we’re in for a slightly darker story. Gone are the colorful rainbow tones. In their place are grim, drawn-out visuals.
A newly released synopsis sheds some more light on what we can expect from Squid Game season 3.
“Picking up where the second season left off, Season 3 explores the choices Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will make amidst overwhelming despair,” says Netflix.

“As the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) plots his next move, the surviving players find their decisions leading to increasingly dire consequences with each round of the deadly games. This season promises to push the limits of suspense and drama, keeping viewers glued to the action.
It’s likely that we’ll see series star Seong Gi-hun (Jung-jae) get some kind or resolution with the sinister forces behind the game and perhaps with his estranged family.
It’s also probably that Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) might get to the bottom of the case involving his missing brother Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), a character we know to be Squid Game overseer The Front Man.
What has Hwang Dong-hyuk said about Squid Game season 3?

The show was confirmed via a letter penned by Dong-hyuk which was released in early August 2024.
In it, the filmmaker shed some light on what’s in store… but not much.
“It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place. I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announced the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season,” explained Dong-hyuk.
“On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking “Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.” It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well.

“Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy appoint this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.
“I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come.”
Who is starring in Squid Game’s final season?

No official casting news for Squid Game season 3 has been released. However, based on Dong-hyuk’s letter, it sounds like Jung-jae’s Gi-hun will be with us until the end.
That means that Byung-hun’s Front Man is also likely to feature in season 3 alongside his police officer sibling Hwang Jun-ho, played by Ha-joon.
Still, at this early stage, it’s important to take all of this with a pinch of salt. Anything could happen in Squid Game season 2 that might impact who returns in Squid Game season 3.
