CD Projekt Red gifted fans with a new trailer, The Witcher 4 at the Game Awards Show 2024, but the ending has left them traumatized and questioning if they can save the girl.

A Dark World Awaits in The Witcher 4

While fans knew the game, initially code-named “Polaris,” had moved into full production, no one expected to hear this soon from the developers. Recently the breakdown of the Cinematic Trailer has been shared on YouTube by Sebastian Kalemba— Game Director, showcasing the brutal, forbidding, and dark world.

He continues to explain two scenes correspondingly, a ritual is being done including a woman, and on the other side, an individual is gearing up for a battle. The first glimpse of the ritual may appear to be some ceremony but the reality is way more horrendous than players can imagine.

Villagers are set to sacrifice this young woman— Mione to appease a monstrous creature, The Bauk. At this point, Ciri confronts the villagers that she isn’t chosen by Gods but by them (Villagers) for this filthy act. Sebastian emphasized

“You have no idea how long we have been waiting for this moment, I mean the entire team, that invested so much passion into the project in recent years, we have been waiting for years to be able to finally show Ciri as the main protagonist of the game”

Your Choices, Her Fate

As the scene moves further, Ciri uses Mione to bait the monster while preparing herself with Witcher potions. Upon sensing the evil has woken up she gets inside the “Heart of Darkness” with the aim to take down Bauk— known for manipulating the fears.

However, Ciri’s Witcher Training and magical abilities assist her in gaining victory in the battle. The most heart-wrenching twist here is that despite the heroic efforts to defeat the creature the villagers’ deep-seated fear and superstition lead them to kill Mioni anyway.

Sebastian mentioned, (transcription via Thegamer)

“This world is dark, it’s grim. But there is a light. There is this warmth. There’s this hope in the end. In this case, Mioni got killed by her people. But as you know our games… there are choices and consequences. There’s going to be a way to save her and this is the hope that The Witcher world brings also. It actually gives you this contrast between grim and hope. This is what I love about this world.”

This choice gives viewers relief and hope that they can prevent the merciless sacrifice of a girl in The Witcher 4. But when and how it can be done and what choices will be there, no one is aware of it yet. For now, players will have to show some patience as the waiting period is extensive.
