Sydney Prescott is returning for Scream 7 – and she is bringing a new husband with her, which raises interesting questions about the plot of the upcoming film.

As reported by Deadline, Joel McHale is set to play Prescott’s new husband, Mark Evans. McHale is best known for his role as Jeff Winger in Community, a role he will be reprising in the upcoming Community: The Movie.

Fans who remember Scream 3 will remember that Prescott had a husband, Detective Mark Kincaid, played by Patrick Dempsey.

Prescott – played once again by Neve Campbell – hasn’t been seen in the Scream world since Scream 5, so she has evidently been busy in that time.

Husband questions

This raises questions about the plot of this new movie – what has happened to the original Mark? Who is this new husband and what is his history? Could this all feed into the wider plot of the movie?

Of course, there is nothing official coming out about the plot of the movie as yet. We’ll probably have to wait for a trailer to come out to get any clues and it will be a while before that arrives as production is only just getting under way on that.

Scream 7 cast

The cast for Scream 7 is developing nicely. As well as Prescott, other legacy characters as coming back, including Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding).

They will be augmented by newcomers to the franchise including rising stars Isabel May, Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp and Sam Rechner.

It is thought that the latest instalment of the iconic horror franchise – which has grossed more than $900 million at the box office over the years – will take sometime of a ‘back to basics’ approach focusing back again on Prescott and her daughter. The two most recent Scream films have focused on newer characters, but with Melissa Berrera and Jenna Ortega – who starred in Scream 5 and 6 – both exiting this film last year, the creative team have gone back to centring the action on Prescott. Here is all we know about Scream 7.

Production on Scream 7 is just getting underway, with the movie slated to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
