Star Wars: Skeleton Crew concluded its first season on 14 January, 2025, with the release of its eighth and final episode on Disney+.

The series, created by Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts, follows four children—Wim, Fern, Neel, and KB—on an adventure to find their way back to their home planet, At Attin.

Jude Law is the main adult star in the series, portraying the character Jod Na Nawood – a mysterious pirate who takes the kids under his wing.

Skeleton Crew is lighter in tone compared to previous Star Wars series productions, with many likening it to Goonies. With the first season ending with several unanswered questions, fans are already wondering if a second season is on the horizon.

The show’s future will depend on its commercial performance. According to Rotten Tomatoes, it’s a hit with fans, boasting a 91% score. However, its fate ultimately hinges on viewer ratings.

As history will show, Star Wars series don’t always have longevity. The Book of Boba Fett was only a limited spin-off and The Acolyte was cancelled after its first season due to low viewership.

Until now, The Mandalorian is the only live-action Star Wars show on Disney+ to run for multiple seasons.

Watts – with writer Christopher Ford – addressed the situation, speaking to Variety. Watts said: “We’ve been talking about what a second season of this would be like, and maybe leaning into that a little bit more. If the first season felt more like a miniseries kind of structure, now that we’ve met the characters, we spend time with them and explore their world in a slightly different narrative way”

Fans definitely have reason to be hopeful, as the pair revealed to Entertainment Weekly: “We have ideas in our heads for sure. We’re waiting to find out what everyone else thinks, but we’ve always had an idea of where this could go even before we made the first season. So there’s lots of potential out there and hope everyone sees that.”

The Star Wars universe is constantly expanding with numerous crossovers, so even if the youngsters don’t return in this miniseries, there’s a good chance they could appear in another story.

Would the same cast return?

The possibility of exploring the characters’ development within their own world has been hinted at, potentially showing the young crew as they mature.

With that in mind, it’s seems very likely all the key actors would want to reprise their roles.

Watts shared his thoughts with UK’s RadioTimes: “I would love to see where they fit into the larger galaxy. By the time we’re into the sequels, they’d be adults. It would be fun to grow up with the kids”.

Jude Law spoke positively about Jod when asked if he’d return to the role, adding: “Absolutely, and that depends an awful lot on whether he’s liked and is popular. What’s clever is they’re always able to cross-pollinate and bring people in and out and back. I would love that.”

Here’s a rundown of the season 1 cast. Time will tell if we see them again, though with The Supervisor’s fate in the final episode, it’s unlikely we’ll see Stephen Fry again in a galaxy far far away.
