A ring worth €750,000 ($806,000) that had gone missing – presumed stolen – from the Ritz in Paris has turned up in a vacuum bag at the hotel.

The owner of the ring, an unnamed Malaysian businesswoman, had reported it stolen to the police on Friday. However, it turned up two days later in among the dust and detritus of a vacuum bag in the hotel.

The ring had been left on a table in the businesswoman’s hotel room while she went shopping for a few hours. When she returned, it had gone, she said in a statement to the police.

In a statement, the hotel praised staff and security guards for their meticulous actions to find the lost ring, as well as their integrity.

The businesswomen, who travelled to England on Friday, is now understood to be returning to Paris to collect the ring – which is being carefully looked after by local police. The Ritz has offered her an additional three nights stay to make up for the inconvenience, although it is thought she does not intend to take up the offer.
