The 2025 Oscars ceremony has revealed how it will pay tribute to Los Angeles which was recently devastated by wildfires.
The plans were revealed in a letter sent by Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang to Academy members in late January 2025. It confirmed that this year’s ceremony will break from tradition and not include any live song performances.
These are typically linked to the nominees for its Original Song category.

In lieu of live performances, the Academy will instead shine a light on nominated songwriters via personal reflections and behind-the-scenes information related to the teams that created each nominated track.
“We will celebrate their artistry through personal reflections from the teams who bring these songs to life. All of this, and more, will uncover the stories and inspiration behind this year’s nominees.”

In addition to these packages, the same letter promised that the ceremony would “honor Los Angeles as a city of dreams, showcasing its beauty and resilience.”
However, it’s still unclear how this will be done.
When are the 2025 Oscar nominations revealed?
The 2025 Oscar nominations will be revealed on Thursday 23 January 2025 at 8:30 AM ET and 5:30 AM PT. Comedians Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott will host the nominations during a live stream.
This year has featured a string of strong Oscar contenders, many of which have already taken home awards at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
Selena Gomez’s Emilia Pérez bagged four Golden Globes including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy. Meanwhile, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist was also a big winner, grabbing Best Picture Drama and Best Actor going to its star Adrien Brody.
Elsewhere, this year has also seen Timothée Chalamet receive praise for his take on Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. Ralph Fiennes’ pope drama Conclave has also attracted rave reviews.
Who is hosting the 2025 Oscars?
The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will be hosted by former late nite host Conan O’Brien. The news was revealed in late 2024, with O’Brien poking fun at his involvement in the show.
“America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” said O’Brien shortly after the news was confirmed.
