Netflix’s next big budget movie is on the horizon. The Electric State, directed by The Russo Brothers is hitting the streaming service on 14 March, 2025.
The movie is a loose adaptation of the Simon Stålenhag dystopian science fiction graphic novel of the same name, released in 2018.
Set in a retro-futuristic 1990s, the story follows a teenage orphan on a journey to the west coast of the United States. She is searching for her long-lost brother, accompanied by a robot.

There’s a star-studded cast for the much-anticipated movie, including many familiar faces (and voices!), so let’s take a look at who’s set to feature.
Millie Bobby Brown – Michelle

Millie Bobby Brown is no stran…..oh okay, stranger to sci-fi having spent the last nine years playing Eleven in Stranger Things
Here, the Emmy award winner portrays the orphaned teenager embarking on a journey to find her missing brother.
At 20 years old, Bobby Brown has quite the resume already. Aside from Stranger Things, which is soon releasing its fifth and final season, she’s starred in two blockbuster Godzilla movies and two Enola Holmes movies. She also starred in the dark fantasy film, Damsel (2024), which also streams on Netflix.
Chris Pratt – Keats

Chris Pratt, best known as Peter Quill from the Guardian of the Galaxy movies and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World franchise, stars alongside Bobby Brown.
Pratt plays the role of Keats, a war veteran with whom Michelle reluctantly teams up with on her quest. Keats has a wisecracking robot sidekick called Herman.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Pratt was moved to tears reading the script, saying “I thought that these types of movies might be my last opportunity to be in a big movie like this. I have to look at every opportunity like that. And I did. It’s just such a great story. I was moved to tears reading.”
Ke Huy Quan – Dr. Amherst

Academy Award winner, Ke Huy Quan, plays the role of Dr. Amherst. Not much is known about the doctor at this point, but he revealed speaking to Empire that “I play Dr Amherst. A character that Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt traverse America to look for. They need to find this doctor to understand what’s going on.”
Quan rose to fame playing Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Data in The Goonies (1985), after which he took a 19-year hiatus from acting.

He returned to Hollywood for Finding ʻOhana (2021) and starred in 2022’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, a performance that earned him the Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.
Stanley Tucci – Ethan Skate

Stanley Tucci plays tech entrepreneur Ethan Skate who has become a prominent figure in the uneasy peace following a war between humanity and robots.
Talking to Digital Spy MCM Comic Con, Joe Russo said of the character, “he’s the father of invention who invents out of trauma and so he’s a complicated character because he’s trying to solve important emotional issues”.
The multi-award winning actor has starred in the likes of The Devil Wears Prada (2006), The Hunger Games films, and most recently the Best Picture Academy Award nominated Conclave.
Giancarlo Esposito – Colonel Marshall Bradbury
Giancarlo Esposito portrays Colonel Marshall Bradbury, but details on the character remain under wraps ahead of the film’s release.
Esposito is best known for playing restaurant entrepreneur and major narcotics distributor Gustavo ‘Gus’ Fring in Breaking Bad. He continued to play Gus in Better Call Saul (2017–2022). He’s been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards for his role in both shows, as well for his role as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian.
Jason Alexander – Ted Finnster
Jason Alexander, best known for his portrayal of George Costanza on the television series Seinfeld (1989–1998) is in the cast. The Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor plays the role of Ted Finnster, but very little is known about the character at this time.
Woody Norman – Christopher
Woody Norman is an English child actor. He is best known for his role as Jesse in the film C’mon C’mon (2021), for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
He plays Michelle’s younger brother Christopher. Initially believed to be deceased, Christopher is later revealed to be alive, prompting Michelle to embark on a journey to find him.
Anthony Mackie – Herman

Anthony Mackie voices Keats’ robot sidekick, Herman. The character adds a layer of humor to the film and in the trailer can be seen carrying a VW Campervan with Michelle and Keats inside across baron land.
Mackie achieved global recognition for portraying Sam Wilson / Falcon / Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he still plays to this day. He has also starred in films like The Hurt Locker (2008) and We Have a Ghost (2023).
Woody Harrelson – Mr. Peanut
Hollywood legend Woody Harrelson lends his voice to the robot Mr. Peanut, a pivotal character who embodies the role of a peacemaker among robots.
Joe Russo told Entertainment Weekly that “Mr. Peanut is, in a lot of ways, the Atticus Finch or the Jimmy Carter of the robots. He’s the most intelligent, the most progressive, the most humane.”
Harrelson became a household name as Woody Boyd in the hit TV show Cheers (1985–1993) and went on to conquer Hollywood. He starred in blockbusters such as White Men Can’t Jump (1992), Natural Born Killers (1994) and The Hunger Games series (2012–2015).
Alan Tudyk – Cosmo

Cosmo is a sweet grinning yellow, yet mysterious robot companion to protagonist Michelle. Details around Cosmo remain limited, but Alan Tudyk voices the robot.
Tudyk has built an impressive career as a voice actor, lending his voice to some iconic characters such as K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Sunny in I, Robot (2004). He has also voiced characters in popular TV shows like Family Guy, American Dad!, and Robot Chicken.
Brian Cox – Pop Fly
Brian Cox voices a robot called Pop Fly, who is a malfunctioning baseball-pitching machine. For now, that is all we know about the robot, but it has our attention.
Cox is a distinguished Scottish actor, renowned for his extensive character work in film and television. He is perhaps best known for his role as Logan Roy in the acclaimed HBO series Succession. He also portrayed Winston Churchill in the 2017 film Churchill, directed by Jonathan Teplitzky.
Jenny Slate – Penny Pal
Penny Pal is a cheerful mail robot voiced by Jenny Slate, who has appeared in movies such as Obvious Child (2014) and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021). Slate has also lent her voice to various animated characters, including the main antagonist Assistant Mayor Dawn Bellwether in Zootopia (2016) and The Secret Life of Pets (2016).
Slate has also appeared in stand-up comedy specials and shows, including her own stand-up performances on HBO and Netflix.
Hank Azaria – Perplexo
Hank Azaria is perhaps best known for voicing multiple characters in The Simpsons, including Apu, Moe and Chief Wiggum. It’s no surprise that he’s part of a cast in which half are voice acting. He voices one of Michelle’s robot companions, Perplexo.
Aside from The Simpson, Azaria voiced the role of Gargamel, the arch-nemesis of the Smurfs in the films The Smurfs (2011) and The Smurfs 2 (2013). He also appeared in The Birdcage (1996) alongside Robin Williams, where he portrayed the unforgettable flamboyant housekeeper, Agador Spartacus. The role would earn him a Screen Actors Guild Award.
