Everyone’s favorite feelgood football coach could be making a return to our screens, with a fourth season expected of Ted Lasso expected to be confirmed soon.

Ted Lasso was a phenomenon over its first three seasons, with fans on both sides of the Atlantic being captivated by the story of an American football coach who is recruited by an English soccer team and takes them to glory.

The Apple TV+ series won a host of Emmys over its initial three-year run from 2020 to 2023 as fans loved its mix of humor and feelgood vibes – underpinned by a genuine sense of pathos and characters who went on meaningful story arcs.

It was assumed that the show had come to an end at the conclusion of season three, when the titular Ted waved goodbye to AFC Richmond and returned to the US. Indeed, co-creator Jason Sudeikis said that the show was envisioned from the start as having a three-season run.

But with the popularity of the show, there was clamor for another series – and fans may just get their wish. Here is all we know about season 4 of Ted Lasso.

Is there a season 4 of Ted Lasso

Currently, the official answer is ‘maybe’. However, industry insiders expect an announcement of a new season soon.

Some of the show’s stars have dropped cryptic hints too. Juno Temple, who played Keeley Jones in the show, dropped hints in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Potentially, it sounds like there might be a season 4,” she said. “I don’t know when. I don’t know exactly who, what, why, where, but I think it sounds like those cogs are turning.”

In addition, Nick Mohammad, who played assistant coach Nate Shelley, recently revealed he had changed some of the dates on his Show Pony live tour “for some filming I have not been able to shift for love of money.”

Mohammad added – perhaps tongue-in-cheek – that he didn’t want people to speculate on what the filming might be, while holding up the iconic hand-painted ‘believe’ sign from the show.

What could the plot be

There has been speculation that a new series could focus on the formation of a women’s side – something Keeley Jones suggested to Rebecca in season three.

That could be a viable arc given the rapid rise in popularity of the women’s game in the UK, and its established popularity in the US.

Then again, football is a sport where managers often return to their old clubs, so it could just as easily see Ted return to Richmond.

Will there be a Ted Lasso spinoff series?

One potential avenue for a new series would be a spinoff – perhaps focusing on the women’s side, as mentioned. However, both Temple and Hannah Waddingham, who played Richmond’s chair Rebecca, have distanced themselves from starring in a spinoff, saying that what made Ted Lasso special was that it was a genuine team effort.

Jason Sudeikis role

But central to whether another series of Ted Lasso happens is co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis. Fellow co-creator Bill Lawrence told Deadline last year that Sudeikis is the heart and driving factor behind the show and that nobody would speak about a fourth season until he has made his decision on it.

Meanwhile, Sudeikis’ attention is likely to be on the Super Bowl, as his team, the Kansas City Chiefs are in the final.
