The latest behind-the-scenes photo doing the rounds is from actor Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell in the hit series. He posted an image on his Instagram showing his face soaked in blood, but with a beaming smile and flashing a thumbs up. The caption reads “WORK’S BEEN GOING GREAT, YOU GUYS! #theboys #season5”.
The official account for Prime Video even got in on the action, commenting to point out that Quaid “missed a spot.”
The Amazon Prime series aired its season four finale episode in July 2024 and fans are already clamouring for more. The finale ended with psychopath superhero Homelander puppeteering the new President, Steven Calhoun. Calhoun, under their influence, declares martial law, effectively granting Homelander unprecedented control over the nation.

As for The Boys, they have effectively been disbanded with Billy Butcher betraying the team by killing Victoria Neuman, and the death of their founder, Grace Mallory. The rest of the team were detained by Vought’s private security forces, except Annie January and Butcher.
What does Quaid’s BTS photo mean for season 5?
There’s no context or clues as to why Hughie is covered in blood, but it does hint that the recurring trend for the character continues.
While not as graphic as the photo posted by Quaid, the season four finale includes Hughie’s face splattered with blood as he watches Butcher brutally kill and split Neuman in two. Also, in the show’s very first episode he witnesses his girlfriend Robin’s horrific and shocking death, when an A-Train speeds into her.
A good question to ask is, whose blood is it? He endured a rough time in season four, to say the least. There’s potential for confronting past grievances and possibly seeking violent revenge.
What other cast members have posted The Boys BTS photos?
