The power of Grayskull is returning to the big screen with Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe, a fresh take on the beloved 1980s franchise. 

Mattel launched the franchise with a line of action figures that debuted in 1982. A year later, the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered in syndication and was followed by video games and other merchandise.

Set for release on 5 June, 2026, this highly anticipated film will bring Prince Adam and his alter ego, He-Man, back to life with a star-studded cast.

Travis Knight, who directed Transformers’ Bumblebee (2018), is on board to direct, with Chris Butler writing the screenplay. According to its official synopsis, Masters of the Universe introduces a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword – the only link to his home on Eternia.

Here’s a rundown of the cast and characters from the upcoming blockbuster.

Nicholas Galitzine – He-Man

Leading the ensemble is Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue, The Idea of You) as Prince Adam/He-Man, stepping into the iconic role of Eternia’s greatest warrior.

Amazon MGM Studios have teased the first look of his portrayal with the caption “Eternia is in good hands”.

In an interview with W Magazine, Galitzine spoke about the preparations he’s undertaking, “there’s been a lot of eating and weightlifting, a lot of stunts. I’m eating about 4,000 calories a day, but the amount of physical work I’m doing, you end up hungry at the end of the day, which is quite surprising. This is the fun part.”

Jared Leto – Skeletor

Jared Leto plays He-Man’s arch nemesis and the leader of the Evil Warriors, Skeletor. Leto is no stranger to playing villainous characters having been the Joker and also the Hatbox Ghost in the Haunted Mansion film (2023).

Leto won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club (2013), where he portrayed Rayon, a transgender woman with HIV.

Camila Mendes – Teela

Camila Mendes portrays Teela, the Captain of the Guards and He-Man’s sergeant. Mendes is best known for portraying Veronica in the Archie Comics-inspired series Riverdale.

She also played the female lead, Celia, in Netflix romantic comedy, The Perfect Date (2019).

Alison Brie – Professor Evelyn Powers

Alison Brie, who stars in Peacock’s thriller limited series Apples Never Fall, plays the dastardly sorceress and Skeletor’s lieutenant, Professor Evelyn Powers.

Brie gained recognition as Annie Edison, a determined and ambitious student at a community college, in the NBC series Community (2009–2015).

Idris Elba – Man-At-Arms

Idris Elba is playing inventor Man-At-Arms, who’s real name is Duncan. The character is also He-Man’s lieutenant and Teela’s adoptive father.

Elba played the all-seeing Asgardian guardian in the Thor films and Avengers series (2011–2019). He was also Bloodsport in James Gunn’s DC film, The Suicide Squad (2021). He most recently reprised his voice role of Knuckles in Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Sam C. Wilson – Trap Jaw

Sam C. Wilson has been cast to play Trap Jaw, a weapons expert and cyborg with a metal jaw, which can bite through anything.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson – Goat Man

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is an Icelandic professional strongman who is widely regarded as one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. In Hollywood, he is best known for portraying Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones.

He has now been cast as Goan Man in Masters of Universe and has already teased fans with some photos from recent makeup tests.

Kojo Attah – Tri-Klops

Kojo Attah plays the role of Tri-Klops, a bounty hunter and swordsman. The character has the special ability to see in any direction, as his eyes are on a rotating visor around his head. He also has night-vision and dista-vision – enabling him to see in the dark, and you got it, for long distances.

Morena Baccarin – the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull

Morena Baccarin portrays Teela Na, the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull. She is Teela’s biological mother.

Baccarin is best known for playing Vanessa Carlysle, Wade Wilson’s girlfriend in the Deadpool films.

Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson – Fisto

Fisto is Duncan aka Goat Man’s younger brother, a warrior with a large metal fist. He is also Teela’s adoptive uncle.

 The role is being played by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, who had a starring role as Olaf “the Holy” Haraldsson in the Netflix series, Vikings: Valhalla.

James Purefoy – King Randor Grayskull

James Purefoy plays King Randor Grayskull, the ruler of Eternia and Adam’s father.

Purefoy received recognition for his portrayal of Mark Antony in the HBO series Rome (2005–2007). Additionally, he has appeared in films like Resident Evil (2002), A Knight’s Tale (2001), and The Tempest (2010).

Charlotte Riley – Queen Marlena Glenn-Grayskull

Charlotte Riley portrays the co-ruler of Eternia, Queen Marlena Glenn-Grayskull. She’s Randor’s wife and Adam’s mother. Both the original cartoon series and the 2002 series show her as suspecting her son is He-Man.

Riley starred in the Netflix hit series, Peaky Blinders. She played the role of May Carleton, a wealthy widow and horse trainer who has a complicated relationship with Tom Shelby.

Jon Xue Zhang – Ram-Man

Jon Xue Zhang plays Ram-Man, the heroic human battering ram. Ram-Man is generally portrayed as a comical and easily likable character, with a strong-heart.

Zhang portrayed the supporting character, Blood Boots, in the Netflix original series, The Brothers Sun.

Sasheer Zamata – Suzie

Suzie is one of Adam’s classmates and is played by actress and stand-up comedian, Sasheer Zamata.

Zamata is best known for her tenure as an SNL cast member. She has also had leading roles in the TV series Woke (2020–2022) and Home Economics (2021–2023).

Christian Vunipola – Hussein

Christian Vunipola plays the role of Hussein, Adam’s best friend.
