- Alwyn’s up for taking on the role of 007
- He made those comments at the Oscars
- Anything could happen now the franchise is under the studio’s creative control

James Bond sounds like the role of a lifetime and right now, it’s anyone’s for the taking. It now appears that Joe Alwyn is quite keen to throw his hat in the ring.
Alwyn first mentioned this on the red carpet at the Oscars. He was attending as he was part of The Brutalist, playing Harry, the son of a wealthy industrialist who first hires architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody).

Variety asked if he would be interested in the role, to which he said: “Oh, wow,” Alwyn added: “Who wouldn’t throw their hat in the ring? You know?” and said he would take the role “if you’re offering!”
He was even asked if he likes martinis shaken or stirred. “I like both. I do, I do.”
Who are the contenders to play 007 in the next film?

Before getting into it, it’s important to remember there’s some criteria the actor who will fill Daniel Craig’s shoes must fulfill. They must be a British man and young enough to stay in the role for at least 15 years. It doesn’t mean they have to be young as such – Craig was in his early fifties for his last James Bond film, No Time To Die.

Chances are, the actor will likely be in his thirties or forties. A few actors who could fit the bill besides Alwyn include Andrew Scott, Aidan Turner or Barry Keoghan.
There’s also the potential for us to see the first James Bond of colour. Regé-Jean Page’s breakthrough role in the first season of Bridgerton could make him a contender, for example. Other suggestions include Damson Idris, Aaron Pierre and Lucien Laviscount.
What’s changed for the James Bond franchise?

The decision of who will be the next James Bond is now in the hands of Amazon/MGM. This is the first time long-time heads Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli don’t have creative control of a film in the franchise.

“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects,” said Wilson. “Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”
The deal means that Amazon will decide who will be the next James Bond actor and what the next movie in the franchise will be.
