A new trailer has dropped for Freaky Friday 2 Freakier Friday. The movie was confirmed in May 2023 and an announcement in June 2024 revealed production had begun. In the 2003 flick, Lohan played the angsty teenager Anna Coleman, while Jamie Lee Curtis played her uptight writer and psychologist mother Tess Coleman. Freaky Friday’s plot surrounds the mother and daughter duo as they switch bodies in a freaky incident and have to live the lives of each other.

The 2003 film is based on the original 1976 film starring Jodie Foster and the late Barbara Harris. Fans of the modern version adored the angst and iconic moments that it brought, so it was a given Curtis and Lohan would reprise their roles.

Director Nisha Gantra will bring the film to us on 8 August. Chad Michael Murray, who played teenage heartthrob Jake and Anna’s love interest is also back. As for the plot, the synopsis reads “Tess and Anna discover that lightning may indeed strike twice as they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge.”

With that summary of Freaky Friday 2, here is what the trailer revealed.

What did the first official trailer reveal?

Shrinked out?

The trailer begins with Anna and Tess seemingly at a medium who says they have “walked in each other’s path”. The medium also says the two have “learned a lesson that may serve them again.” Creeped out, the mom and daughter walk away from the medium. Maybe they don’t want to get body swapped again?

A striking moment in Freaky Friday 2

A sound erupts like lighting or a shake, triggering Anna’s suspicion. Ever the practical and rational mom Tess declares, “It’s all in our heads.” Don’t you know that lightning strikes twice, Tess? The tagline for the movie says, “This time it’s freakier.”

Switching with teenagers

The big reveal comes when Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia Butters) realizes she has switched places with her mother. Tess switches with Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily Davies (Sophia Hammons). The four ladies freak out about their changes in appearance. Young ones fret over being old, and the older ones fret over being young again. Teenage hormones or wrinkles, take your pic…

The solution to the problem?

Anna and Tess suggest to the teenagers that they should convince people they are each other. The trailer gives lots of hints on the silly antics that the group will get up to, including teenagers driving the nice car, Anna and Tess running track, and even the return of Pink Slip (Anna’s angsty high school band).

Jake’s return in Freaky Friday 2

Another iconic Murray role has its revival, as the trailer reveals Jake at the end. Back in 2003, Murray was the it man of the time. He was playing the main role of Lucas Scott on the WB teen drama One Tree Hill and starred in Freaky Friday, A Cinderella Story, and House of Wax. The end of the trailer shows Murray, now 43, shaking his tousled hair and getting off a motorbike. Anyone hoping for an Anna and Jake reunion? It seems clear she is engaged to someone else, given that she has a stepdaughter-to-be.

What a way to end a trailer! The almost 2-minute trailer dropped on 14 March. When it gets closer to that August release date hopefully, we’ll get another one. Stay tuned for updates on Freaky Friday 2!
