Freaky Friday 2 AKA Freakier Friday is heading our way.

20 years after Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan charmed audiences as a very relatable mother-daughter duo, a follow-up is on the cards.

With the official name of Freakier Friday, it will take place at least two decades after the 2003 movie. The first one was a remake of a 1976 movie starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris.

However, with speculation and rumour, we thought it was wise to do a run-down of everything has been confirmed so far.

Here is everything we know so far about Freaky Friday 2, better known as Freakier Friday

Is there a trailer?

A trailer for the movie dropped on 14 March to give a taste of what to expect from the upcoming film.

When was Freaky Friday 2 confirmed?

In May 2023, The New York Times reported that a sequel was in development. Curtis and Lohan were attached alongside screenwriter Elyse Hollander.

“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday. Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made,’” Curtis told the newspaper.

“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be,” Lohan said. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

A spanner was thrown into the works when the WGA strike was called that summer. Last year, it was reaffirmed that, yes, it was still happening.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live, Lohan told the TV mogul that “it is” still a-go in March 2024.

She added, “I don’t want to say too much…We’re both excited! I’m gonna speak for Jamie.”

Later that week, Curtis posted a selfie on Instagram with Lohan, writing “DUH! FFDEUX” in the caption.

The following day, she posted an image from the original movie, a still of them realising they’d changed bodies.

Who is coming back from the original cast?

Curtis and Lohan will play their original roles once more as mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman.

Other talent from the 2003 movie is also expected to return, a real whos-who of ’00s stars. These include Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, and Stephen Tobolowsky.

Other beloved faces include Rosalind Chao, Lucille Soong, and many more.

Any new talent in Freakier Friday?

There are lots of fresh faces joining for the sequel. Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan got her talents enlisted, as did Sophia Hammons. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about their roles just yet.

One bit of casting gossip came from Curtis, who revealed that Manny Jacinto will play Anna’s husband.

Of the Good Place star, she told Entertainment Weekly, “Manny plays Lindsay’s husband, but that’s as much as we can say.”

Will Pink Slip be making an appearance?

Well, Christina Vidal Mitchell and Haley Hudson – the actresses who played band members Maddie and Peg – are set to reprise their roles in the sequel.

Producer Andrew Gunn admitted they were thinking of the garage band reuniting, saying, “We got a draft of a script for the sequel right before the writers’ strike, and it was really good. A writer came up with the most brilliant idea. It uses music and the band in a great way.”

What is the plot of Freaky Friday 2?

Well, a few details have been shared publicly. There is a kid and a wedding, and it’s set 20 years later.

We know that Anna is now a mother as three days after it was confirmed the newly director Nisha Ganatra posted a casting call for Lohan’s on-screen daughter Harper.

The role was described as “a teen surfer with California vibes with a sharp sense of humour. Harper is in a bit of mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davies.”

It continued that Harper “would like to see things go her way and use her intelligence to stop this marriage from ever happening.”

The audition brief and the eight pages of the script that accompanied it, also outlined that Eric also had a 14-year-old daughter named Lily, a noted enemy of Harper.

In this version, Anna and Tess swap bodies. However, they do not switch with each other, they switch with their two teenagers.

According to EW, “Harper should channel ‘Anna’ (Lindsay Lohan) and Lily should channel ‘Tess’ (Jamie Lee Curtis).”

In the documents, there was a suggestion of a scene of Anna and Tess in the girls’ bodies recalling their younger days, drinking apple juice out of wine glasses.

There’s also a detention clean-up scene where Tess talks about how the possibility of Anna moving to London makes her feel.

When did production start on Freaky Friday 2?

Walt Disney Studio’s official Instagram shared proceedings had kicked off on 24 June last year. The announcement was made with a snap of Curtis and Lohan hand-in-hand in front of their trailers.

The caption read, “The Colemans are back and coming to theatres in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!”

On her own Instagram, Curtis added, “WE ARE FREAKING OUT because the Coleman’s are getting FREAKY AGAIN!”

Lohan added, “We’re back.”

When is it expected to land in theatres?

Back in October, the release date was revealed to be 25 August 2025. This was alongside a picture of the on-screen mother-daughter duo recreating their facial expressions from the original poster.

Is there a trailer?
