Adam Sandler is back in the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 cult classic comedy, joined by returning cast members Julie Bowen as Happy’s love interest, Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald as Happy’s arch-nemesis, Shooter McGavin.

Sandler continues his tradition of enlisting famous faces to cameo in his films. This time he’s roped in several big names from the world of golf, including Rory McIlroy and world number one Scottie Scheffler, and other sports stars such as Kansas City Chiefs’s Travis Kelce.

“I haven’t swung a club in years,” Happy says in the trailer, as he prepares to return to the game to take on some of sport’s current stars.

Bad Bunny caddy

We see new faces such as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), Sandler’s daughters Sadie and Sunny, and comedian Blake Clark in the new trailer.

Bad Bunny is on caddy duties for Happy, making several appearances in the trailer, most notably breaking a golf club in two over his leg. It looks like he’ll be playing an angry caddy who dons a bowtie.

Ben Stiller returns as Hal L

The trailer also confirmed the return of Ben Stiller, who reprises his role as the memorable character Hal L. Hal L is a sadistic manager of the nursing home where Happy’s grandmother briefly resided in the first film. He secretly forced the residents to perform hard manual labor and frequently threatened them.

Happy and Hal share a brief exchange in the new trailer. Hal, dressed sharply in a waistcoat with rings covering his fingers, enters a room and is shocked to see Happy. He pauses before saying, “Mr. Gilmore?” to which Happy replies, “Holy ****.”

Stiller’s inclusion isn’t going unnoticed with fans either. @JamalDizel commented on the trailer “Ben Stiller is in this one too! His role, in the first one, was hilarious!”, which trigger a host of fans to quote Hal L’s absurd lines from the first film.

The trailer also seems to acknowledge that almost three decades has passed since its first outing. Happy needs to “update his happy place to something more age-appropriate” as he tees off on the green.

Sandler also took to Instagram to share the trailer, writing “Hope you all have fun and thanks for all the great times.”

Happy Gilmore 2 will be available on Netflix from 25 July, 2025.
