After months of controversy, Disney’s new Snow White adaptation is about to hit cinemas and its Rotten Tomatoes score has arrived.

Instead, the film currently holds a 48% score based on 96 reviews from movie critics based on a range of outlets. Broken down, this score is the culmination of 46 fresh or positive reviews against 50 negative rotten write ups.
Ultimately, it’s audiences who will have the final say over the fate of this film and it’s worth bearing in mind that their thoughts are yet to be shared.

Until the film hits the big screen on Friday 21 March, we won’t know whether its Popcorn audience score goes against what critics had to say.
Snow White reviews: What have critics said?

The overall consensus is that the film is full of missed opportunities. Many critics praise Ziegler’s performance, with some saying she “shines” in the role.
However, the bitter taste of the various controversies surrounding this release appears to have hampered some critics views.
Some parts of the film work better than others, but none of it has the sweetness and imagination of the animated feature,” said Nell Minow from RogerEbert.com. “This “Snow White” is not the fairest of them all. It’s just, well, fair.”

Meanwhile, the Independent didn’t hold back when critiquing Disney’s recent redo habit. “With Snow White, they’ve finessed their formula — do the bare minimum to make a film, then simply slap a bunch of cutesy CGI animals all over it and hope no one notices.”
“The story is cluttered, the tone is muddled, and the pacing is off,” added the BBC. “Again, that doesn’t make the film a disaster. In some ways, the identity crisis is what makes it worth seeing.”
Were there any positive reviews?

Despite the above takes likely to dominate the conversation, not all of the reviews were bad. Some fans found plenty to like in Webb’s movie.
“Efficiently directed by Marc Webb with an excellent production design by Kave Quinn, “Snow White” is everything you need it to be and nothing more,” suggested the San Francisco Chronicle.
Meanwhile, Variety had a good time with the film. “The chirpy, vivacious, just-romantic-enough-to-get-by “Snow White” proves to be an exception to the rule,” suggested their critic Owen Gleiberman.
“A visually stunning, thematically rich adaptation that successfully modernises the classic tale,” said movie site HeyUGuys. “This is a fairy tale for a new generation—one that reminds us all of the power of courage, kindness, and believing in a better future.”
