At the heart of the story is Li Fong – a new character played by newcomer Ben Wang. When he moves to New York City with his mother, he quickly finds the change of pace unsettling – especially when he crosses paths with some local bullies trained in the art of karate.
Luckily Li Fong knows Karate himself but he’ll need some training if he wants to come out on top. It’s down to his Karate teacher Mr Han (Jackie Chan) to hone his skills – but when he decides that Miyagi Karate is the only way forward, he enlists the help of original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio).

Is Karate Kid: Legends connected to Cobra Kai?

Yes, Karate Kid: Legends shares DNA with the Karate Kid spin-off series Cobra Kai.
First released on YouTube Premium and later on Netflix, Cobra Kai picked up LaRusso’s story years later, finding him and his former adversary Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as adults.
Series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg then flipped the narrative, showing how LaRusso’s time as a hero negatively impacted Johnny’s life and future aspirations. Throughout the show’s six seasons, we see both come face to face – first as enemies and later as friends.
The show ended in early 2025.
Karate Kid: Legends features Macchio as LaRusso once more although it’s unclear whether Zabka’s Johnny will make an appearance.
When is it released?

Fans don’t have to wait too long to wax on and wax off to this new instalment of the iconic 80s movie franchise.
Karate Kid: Legends is set to debut on 30 May 2025 in both the United States and Canada. Meanwhile, a release date for the United Kingdom has not yet been confirmed.
