The live action remake of How To Train Your Dragon is receiving an overwhelming amount of praise after it was screened early for fans at CinemaCon, this week. Some viewers have even dubbed it the best live action adaptation of all time.

Dean DeBlois’ reworking of the beloved 2010 Dreamworks animation is due for release in June, but CinemaCon attendees were given the opportunity to view it a couple of months early.

Mason Thames takes on the role of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, while Gerard Butler reprises his role from the original film of Stoick The Vast. Nick Frost, Nico Parker, Bronwyn James, Julian Dennison also star.

The premise of the film, per Universal, is “On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and Dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, defies centuries of traditional dragon-fighting practice when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.”

How To Train Your Dragon – “Best Live Action Adaptation Ever”

Judging by the early reactions from the CinemaCon screening in Las Vegas, yesterday, the fact a sequel has already been confirmed for 2027 appears to be an extremely shrewd (and lucrative) move by Universal.

How To Train Your Dragon hits cinemas on June 13, 2025.
