- Some improvisation on Weekend Update went in a surprisingly profane direction
- Ego Nwodim reckoned that Lorne Michaels would be “mad at y’all”
- The word was censored on streaming

On live TV, anything can happen, including sometimes incidents that nobody could have predicted beforehand. One of these was an unexpected spate of swearing from the audience during SNL’s Weekend Update segment.
Ego Nwodim was performing as her alter ego Miss Eggy during a routine about the White House pulling Amber Ruffin as a featured entertainer during its annual correspondents dinner. Earlier, she had done some call-and-response with the audience – “Ms. Eggy don’t what?” to which the audience said: “Play.”

Nwodim then said “These men ain’t what?”, to which they shouted back: “S**t!”The censors on Peacock couldn’t do anything about it in time. The comedienne, co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che, were noticeably shocked.

“We’re finna get fired for that,” she joked, adding: “Y’all gonna have to pay for that, Lorne’s gonna be mad at y’all.”
Could SNL get in trouble?
The profanity made it onto the streamer, but was caught in time during the five-second network delay on NBC. This meant that it did get censored on time.

As a result, it means it’s unclear if the FCC will fine the show. SNL hasn’t yet addressed the incident publicly.
What else happened on Weekend Update?
The sketch took aim at both the chaotic tariff situation in the US right now and Morgan Wallen’s surprisingly hasty exit from the show last week.
“Just in the past two days, investors have lost over six trillion dollars. Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights,” said Jost.
Wallen was the musical guest last week but at the end of the show simply walked off camera instead of doing the goodbyes with the rest of the cast. This prompted an intense backlash online.

Later on, Jost joked, “America elected Donald Trump to run the country like a business, but it turns out he’s running it like one of his businesses. I love that you can intentionally ruin the economy and still get to stay president. It’s like if you drunk drove your car through the window of the DMV and they were like, ‘License renewed!’”
