Pubity Group, one of the world’s largest Gen Z social publishers, is set to plant 40,000 polylepis trees in the high Andes in Ecuador.

Entitled The Pubity Forest Project, this new initiative celebrates Pubity’s Instagram hitting 40 million followers, and is also part of the company’s long-term mission to have a positive impact on the lives of communities across the globe.

The Pubity Forest is a new partnership between Pubity Group and TreeApp, one of the UK’s leading tree planting organizations.

The idea is to reforest an area devastated by deforestation and restore an ecosystem that is home to 125 different bird species, including the Sparkling Violetear hummingbird.

Moreover, it will provide new employment opportunities for the largely female, indigenous workforce.

“We wanted to do something meaningful”

In creating this new forest, Pubity worked closely with the TreeApp team to determine the right type of project, location and tree-type to contribute to a sustainable future by strategically planting trees where they are needed most.

“Pubity’s mission is to make a positive impact on people’s lives every day,” explained Kit Chilvers, co-founder of Pubity Group. “And to mark our 40 million followers, and just in time for Earth Day, we wanted to do something meaningful outside of our screens that will have a lasting impact.

“It’s been amazing to partner with TreeApp to learn more about their important mission and help rebuild the world’s forests, one tree at a time.”

Meanwhile, Richard Muggeridge, Partnerships Manager at Treeapp hit home how the Pubity Forest will be crucial for supporting local communities and wildlife.

“It has been a pleasure working with Pubity Group, and understanding the most important requirements of their forest initiative,” added Muggeridge. “With a passionate interest and care towards biodiversity, wildlife, and the local communities that would be planting the trees, the team chose Ecuador for their Private Forest.

“Supporting the hummingbird population in this region is just one of the many birds and mammals supported by this project,” he continued. “My thanks go out to the entire Pubity team for making Ecuador their Private Forest of the future.”

The Pubity Forest will begin planting in Mojanda and will be carried out by mainly all-female locals. The Polylepis trees will help combat climate change and create habitats for wildlife for generations to come.
