A new Suits spin-off has been green-lit for a pilot – but it is set to be very different to the beloved original series.
Details of Suits LA have been announced by NBC, but it appears that none of the original stars or characters from the parent series will be in it.
Relatively few details have been announced about Suits: LA, other than the main premise of the show. It will focus on Ted Black, who was a federal prosecutor in New York, but has since relocated to Los Angeles and become a leading lawyer there. The pilot episode will join Black as his firm reaches a ‘crisis point’ and, to turn it around, he must change focus, much to his disgust.
NBC has also revealed to E! News that Ted will be surrounded by characters who test their loyalties to Ted and each other as they personal and professional lives mix. In addition, the events in the past that led Ted to leave New York – and everyone he loved – behind – will slowly unravel.
However, it has been revealed that Aaron Korsh, who created the original series, will be in charge for this spin-off. Meanwhile, Doug Limon – who was behind films such as The Bourne Identity – is on board as an executive producer.
The original show was incredibly popular in its nine-season run from 2011-19. It focused on the lives and loves of a group of New York lawyers. Stars included Gabriel Mocht, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle and Sarah Rafferty.
Suits has recently had a renaissance thanks to Netflix, which made all series available to watch in mid-2023 and the show went on to be the most-streamed series on the platform in 2023.
There has already been a short-lived Suits spin-off. Called Pearson, it starred Gina Torres as the titular Jessica Pearson but the show was cancelled after just one season in 2019.
The cast for Suits: LA has yet to be announced, likewise if any original stars will reappear in this series. However, information will probably be forthcoming soon as production is scheduled to begin in March in Vancouver.
