- Dexter: Resurrection is coming to our screens this summer
- It is the spinoff of Dexter: New Blood
- The first teaser for the show has dropped, and Dexter is not dead

Dexter: Resurrection just dropped its first major teaser for the season, and Dexter Morgan isn’t dead. Fans have been waiting four years to see the return of Michael C. Hall’s serial killer, unsure whether he was alive or dead, per the events at the end of Dexter: New Blood.
But before there were spinoffs, there was the Showtime hit show Dexter, starring Hall as blood spatter analyst Dexter Morgan. By day, he is a valued member of the Miami Metro Police Department. And by night, he is a killer, hunting heinous killers and bad people.

Dexter became one of Showtime’s biggest shows when it premiered back in 2006 and has resulted in three spinoffs. The most recent is Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel to the show which explores what led Dexter to become the way he is.
But now the story of Dexter Morgan is continuing. See what happened in the teaser here.
What happened in the Dexter: Resurrection teaser?
On 28 April, Showtime dropped a teaser and also revealed that two episodes of Dexter: Resurrection would debut on 11 July on Paramount+, and on 13 July on air on Showtime.
You can see the full teaser here.
The teaser begins with Dexter holding a newspaper with the headline that says, ‘Dexter Morgan is dead’. Teasingly, Dexter shakes his head, as if telling the audience he’s still alive.
Unsurprisingly, this was an obvious plot for fans, as at the end of New Blood, Dexter is shot by his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). Harrison shooting his father wasn’t exactly surprising, because he doesn’t want to carry the same homicidal tendencies as his father. But if Dexter had died, how would they continue the show? Nobody would watch for Harrison.
It is as if Harrison has a realization that Dexter’s actions have caused harm to innocent people, even if he is weeding out the word of ‘bad’ people. Inherently, Dexter is bad because he’s a killer.
Furthermore, Harrison is told by Dexter that he operates by the code that Harry (James Remar), his father, taught him. However, in New Blood, Dexter breaks the code as he kills a police officer and his friend Logan (Alano Miller).
Why does he do this? To escape from jail.
Is Dexter being alive shocking?

No. On-set pictures and promotional images show Dexter Morgan is very alive. Additionally, the description of the series gives a hint to Dexter’s next quest.
It reads, “Weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right”.
Dexter is also being trailed by ghosts from his past, with his former colleague Angel Batista (David Zayas) learning the truth about him in New Blood. The description also says Batista trails Dexter to New York to question him about his past.
As far as Batista and Miami Metro were aware, Dexter died at sea after coming into contact with a hurricane. However, this was deliberate, as Dexter faked his death to leave Miami without consequence. Batista receives a call from the Coast Guard, reporting the wreckage of Dexter’s boat, so he assumes he is dead.
The description continues, “As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined — and that the only way out is together.”
We look forward to seeing where Dexter goes next.
