In happy news this week, it has been revealed that pop star Miley Cyrus and her long-term boyfriend Maxx Morando have got engaged.
The news broke on December 2 when Miley attended the premiere of the latest film in the Avatar franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash in Los Angeles. There, it was noted she had a sparkly diamond ring on her left hand – a sure-fire sign it is an engagement ring.
Miley told Good Morning America on Wednesday that Maxx popped the question when the pair were on a trip to Asia – and that he even got down on one knee to do it.
The pair have officially been together since 2022, although they met in 2021. Their relationship has been largely conducted out of the public eye – well, it is called a private life for a reason – but they were occasionally pictured together at events over the past few years.

He’s a drummer in a band
Maxx is currently the drummer for rock band Liily. The LA-based group formed in 2016, with Maxx joining in 2018. The current line-up comprises Maxx, frontman Dylan Nash, guitarist Sam De La Torre and bassist Charlie Anastasis.
Prior to joining Liily, Maxx was the drummer in The Regrettes from 2015-18. The band continued after his departure but disbanded in 2023.
Maxx and Miley met on a blind date
Yes, really. Although as Miley has admitted in an interview with British Vogue, it was blind for her but not really for him. Well, it must be difficult when you’re an international megastar to have a blind date. But Miley went in with an open mind to the date – thinking the worst that could happen is that she left the date – but it evidently went much better than that.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given their careers, Miley and Maxx have collaborated on music together in the past few years.
Maxx produced two tracks on Miley’s 2023 album, Endless Summer Vacation – her eighth studio release – Handstand and Violet Chemistry.
Then this year, Maxx was producer on multiple songs on Miley’s Something Beautiful album, and was also credited as a writer on the title track.
Miley has said that she works with people she loves, and that Maxx inspires her in her music.
He dabbles in fashion design
While Maxx is most famous for his musical work, his creativeness goes much further than that – including fashion design. Indeed, Maxx worked on one of Miley’s festival looks in 2021, working with designer Shane Kastl. Miley praised the look for its sustainable and reinventive spirit.
Maxx is younger than Miley
There is an age difference of six years between Maxx and Miley, with Maxx being the younger. While six years isn’t a vast age difference, it does mean they have had some contrasts in their upbringings. Most notably, Maxx grew up in the digital age, having a laptop at his fingertips, whereas Miley, being that bit older, was part of the generation that had to share a single desktop computer with her siblings.
But Miley says they are very similar in other ways – especially their outlook on life and habit of not taking things too seriously.
