Twixtmas – the time between Christmas and New Year – is a perfect opportunity to veg out in front of a box set – here are our recommendations for this.

We’re in that period between Christmas and New Year – known as Twixtmas – where many of us are off work and have plenty of time to lounge on the sofa and watch some good TV while eating that Christmas chocolate out of the way.

But while you are lounging on the sofa, the question is, what to watch? Christmas TV schedules are notoriously hit and miss – especially in the daytime – so now is an ideal time to settle back with a box set of a hit series and binge it.

Here is our list of some of the best box sets to watch on streaming services such as Netflix – things that you might have missed when they came out at the time or ones you might be curious about.

The White Lotus season 3

The White Lotus is an anthology series, so it doesn’t really matter if you haven’t caught the first two seasons, as the location and cast is largely changed. The plotlines remain roughly the same: a group of – largely awful – people with a range of secrets are staying at a luxury hotel, whereupon a murder occurs. Over the course of the series, various aspects of the guests lives’ unravel, all while the investigation into the murder continues.

As usual, a great ensemble cast – including Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins and Parker Posey – help the elevate the comedy drama with some memorable performances.

Stranger Things season 5

The long (long) awaited final season of Stranger Things finally dropped earlier in the year. This final return to Hawkins looks to wrap up the story that has gripped fans for years. While many people have been watching the episodes as they dropped, there are still some out there who haven’t caught up on the science fiction sensation. Now is the right time to, as the feature length final episode drops on New Year’s Day.

Slow Horses

Apple TV+’s Slow Horses has been a slow burner but the show, now up to five seasons, has gained a large following – and there are plenty of reasons to love it. The show focuses on MI5 agent Jackson Lamb and his band of disgraced or failed agents and their work, which is usually mundane drudgery, but somehow usually ends up with them involved in foiling plots that endanger Britain.

Gary Oldman as the dishevelled and cynical Lamb is the star, but there are stellar performances from the rest of the cast, giving humour, pathos and drama in equal measure.

The Studio

One of the biggest new shows of 2025 turned out to be Apple TV+’s The Studio. Co-written by and starring Seth Rogen, the satirical comedy focuses on the newly-appointed head of a Hollywood studio who trys to navigate the politics of today’s film in industry and make films that have artistic merit – not just those that provide the biggest box office returns.

A neat device in the show is to have cameos from real-life stars playing versions of themselves.

Severance

Another sci-fi drama, Severance, got rave reviews in 2025 for its second season and both seasons are certainly worth bingeing. The show, mostly directed by Ben Stiller, works on the premise that at biotech corporation Lumon Industries, employees have undergone a process called severance, which separates their memories between their work and personal lives – with neither knowing about the other. But while that is weird enough, things get darker quickly – placing characters in danger as they try to find out more about the company and its procedures. Now is a good time to catch up as there is a third season in the works.
