April saw some great movies hit theaters and May is set to continue that trend – here are six movies coming out that we’re excited to see.

May is set to be another stellar month for movie goers, with a range of new and hotly anticipated films arriving in theaters.
Some movies fans have been waiting for for years to come out and now they can now finally see if the wait was worth it. Meanwhile others perhaps have hadn’t had such fanfare but are nonetheless set to be well worth the price of a ticket and a bucket of popcorn.
Here are six of the movies we are most excited to see that come out this month. It covers something for everyone – fantasy, horror, drama and family.
The Devil Wears Prada II (May 1)
Another long-awaited sequel arrives this month. Continuing the recent trends for sequels arriving many years after the initial instalment. In The Devil Wears Prada II, we pick up the action about two decades on from the first movie. Miranda Priestly is still in charge of Runway, but approaching retirement and dealing with declining ad revenues. She brings back Andy Sachs as features editor to help the magazine, and they both reconnect with former assistant Emily, who is now the head of a luxury brand and holds the advertising budget that could help Runway survive.
Deep Water (May 1)
Over the years, there have been many movies focusing on an air crash and the aftermath of it, and on sharks – but rarely (if ever) have they come together in one movie. Enter Deep Water. When a flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai ditches in the Pacific Ocean, the survivors have enough to deal with being on a sinking plane. Could things get worse? Yes they could – man-eating sharks start to circle the wreckage.
The Sheep Detectives (May 8)
Something lighter, but more offbeat comes in the form of The Sheep Detectives. Hugh Jackman plays a shepherd, who likes to read murder mysteries aloud to his flock. As you do. But when that shepherd is found dead in mysterious circumstances, his sheep – who listened and understood everything he read to them – realise at once that it was murder, and they set out to solve the crime and reveal the killer.
Mortal Kombat II (May 15)
One for gamers as the legendary martial arts franchise Mortal Kombat gets a second run-out on the big screen for this iteration (there were two films in the 90s… best not to talk about those). This time, the champions of Earthrealm, joined by Johnny Cage, are forced to battle each other as they attempt to resist the rule of Shao Kahn, who threaten the survival of Earthrealm. Expect plenty of spectacular martial arts sequences.
Obsession (May 15)
Supernatural horror movie drop this month, with a riff on the old saying of ‘be careful what you wish for’. The movie follows Bear, who has feelings for his fellow record store employee Nikki, but cannot voice them – especially as he feels they aren’t reciprocated. But when he discovers the ‘One Wish Willow’, he wishes for Nikki to love him more than anyone else in the world. When his wish comes true, things quickly go wrong.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
After what seems like an interminable wait – about three years – the Mandalorian finally makes the leap to the big screen. The movie is the continuation of the Disney+ series, with Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian. Here, Din, alongside Grogu, are enlisted by the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt, in exchange for information on a target.
