It might seem like an age since The Batman arrived on screens – it was 2022 – but finally the sequel is taking shape. We know the film will be released on October 1 next year, and we now know better which characters are returning and some of the new ones joining – including an iconic Batman villain.

Matt Reeves is back on directing duties for the sequel – he also co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin – and has recently been talking about filming having started, and revealed the cast list too, just to ramp up the hype that little bit more.

So who is in The Batman: Part II? Here’s what we know:

Robert Pattinson

Robert is back as Bruce Wayne/Batman. After a successful first outing in the black cowl, Robert will continue with his nuanced portrayal of Batman.

Jeffrey Wright

Jeffrey also returns as Gotham City Police Department’s Jim Gordon. The pair worked together on the Riddler case in the original movie, where he was a police lieutenant, but is now on his way to becoming commissioner.

Andy Serkis

Andy returns as Batman’s faithful butler (and father figure) Alfred Pennyworth. Alfred is Bruce’s confidant, although he questions his mental state. The relationship between the pair can be strained, but remains unbroken.

Jayme Lawson

Jayme returns as Bella Real. In the first movie, she was a candidate for mayor – and, according to the director, the character who represented hope – but now has won the election. How will being in power change her and her relationships with the other character?

Gil Perez-Abraham

Another returnee is Gil, who reprises his role as Officer Martinez, a cop in the GCPD.

Colin Farrell

Colin also returns as Oz Cobb/The Penguin. He was a significant villain in the first movie, and has since starred in his own series, which is set between the first and second Batman movies. What impact plotlines from that will have on this movie remain to be seen.

Sebastian Stan

Sebastian, who is probably best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, is taking on the iconic role of Harvey Dent. A legendary villain in the Batman world, Harvey Dent is the businessman who, after an horrific accident, becomes the villain Two-Face

Scarlett Johansson

Another actor making the leap across the great comic divide is Scarlett Johansson. For many years she was synonymous with the role of Black Widow in the MCU, but now she’s pitching up in the DC Universe as Gilda Dent, the wife of Harvey.

Charles Dance

Veteran British actor Charles Dance, who has appeared in many movies over the years, but is probably best known recently for his role in Game of Thrones, is playing Christopher Dent, father of Harvey.

Sebastian Koch

While the release of some of the cast list has set up some significant plotlines, there are still some surprises. Sebastian Koch has been confirmed in the cast, but it hasn’t been revealed which character he will be playing. The veteran German actor is probably best known for his roles in Bridge of Spies (2014), and season five of Homeland, where he played a German billionaire who hires ex-CIA officer Carrie Mathison as head of security.

Brian Tyree Henry

Another actor confirmed in the cast, but not which role he will be playing is Brian Tyree Henry. Brian is best known for his role as Paper Boi in Atlanta from 2016-22. He has also had roles in Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. He also voiced Jefferson Davis in the two Spider-Verse movies.
