Amelia Dimoldenberg has announced that her hugely popular YouTube show Chicken Shop Date is coming to an end – but how much do you know about her?

For more than 10 years, Chicken Shop Date has delighted fans across the world. The show, which sees Amelia Dimoldenberg go on a ‘date’ with a host of actors, musicians and celebrities in a fried chicken shop setting, has become a huge hit.
Amelia’s blend of deadpan delivery, offputting questions and, often, outrageous flirting has become a huge hit and made her one of the best known content creators in the UK and secured her work across the world – including the red carpet at the Oscars.
But all good things must come to an end, and Amelia has just announced on Instagram that Chicken Shop Date will be finishing soon, although there will be a few final dates before the shop closes its doors for good.
“To me the show is my very own rom-com and I have loved creating so many stories for you to watch,” Amelia posted on Instagram. “I am so grateful to everyone who has followed me on this journey and found some joy in these episodes.
“I never thought I’d stop Chicken Shop Date, I thought maybe it would be a part of me forever, and in some way it always will, but I feel like it’s now time to move on from this adventure and on to a new one.”
But how much do you know about Amelia Dimoldenberg? Here are some facts you might not know.
Chicken Shop Date started as a magazine column
Chicken Shop Date had modest beginnings as a written column in a magazine called The Cut, which was based at a youth club in London that she attended. It began as Amelia wanted to learn more about grime music and so interviewed ‘friends of friends’ in the genre to do so. She decided to frame the interviews as dates and hold them in a chicken shop as it wasn’t somewhere dates – or interviews – would usually happen.
Amelia’s Chicken Shop persona first developed in school
Amelia’s persona in Chicken Shop Date is a heightened version of herself, playing up certain aspects for comic effect. But this started back in high school. Initially, she was quite isolated until – like many comedians – she found that making other students laugh was a way to become more popular.
But, as she went to an all-girls school, socialising with boys could be intimidating, so she developed a strong sense of sarcasm to protect herself, Amelia revealed in an interview in The Gentlewoman.
Chicken Shop Date was discussed in her university tutorials
Amelia went to university and studied fashion journalism at Central Saint Martins in London. By then, Chicken Shop Date was up and running and had moved into a video format and it was discussed in tutorials.
Her tutor saw that Amelia’s style was an update on the irreverent approach to pop journalism taken by UK magazines such as Smash Hits in the 1980s and 90s, which often used to ask pop stars off-beat questions, rather than the traditional style of asking about the new single or album.
She was one of Time’s 100 most influential creators
Such has been the success of Chicken Shop Date that Amelia was named in Time magazine’s inaugural TIME100 Creators list in 2025, which listed its take on the 100 most influential digital content creators.
She writes hundreds of questions before a red carpet event
In recent years, Amelia has branched out from the chicken shop and has become a regular on red carpet events. She has been the Red Carpet Correspondent at the past three Oscars ceremonies, as well as stints on the Golden Globes and BRIT Awards, among others.
While the interviews on the red carpet appear off-the-cuff, Amelia prepares meticulously for each one, preparing hundreds of questions in advance to ensure she is prepared for anything.
She’s developing her own TV series
Chicken Shop Date might be coming to an end, but Amelia will certainly be busy in the coming months. As well as work as a brand ambassador for various companies, and her red carpet work, Amelia is developing a comedy-drama for the BBC, which will be a teen coming-of-age show.
