Greta Gerwig has released the first promo poster for her upcoming movie Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which is out next year. Here is all we know about it.

Greta Gerwig’s reimagining of the beloved Narnia stories is coming closer to the big screen, with the release of a first teaser poster ahead of a trailer coming soon.
With the tagline ‘A universe begins’, the poster indicates that we could see the Narnia franchise reborn on the big screen with, it is hoped, more movies to follow.
The movie is hotly anticipated, as The Chronicles of Narnia has been a beloved fantasy series since the novels were first published in the 1950s.
Here is all we know about Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
What is the plot of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew?
The Magician’s Nephew takes its inspiration from the sixth book in the original series by CS Lewis, which was published in 1955. While it was the sixth book in the series, it was the first chronologically and focuses on the creation of Narnia.
The plot of the book – and assumedly the source material for the movie, although expect some significant reworking – focuses on two children, Diggory and Polly, who live in the same row of terraced houses. Digory’s Uncle Andrew owns magic rings (as you do) that allow the children to be transported to another world, leading them to adventures that include witnessing the creation of Narnia.
Who is starring in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew?
The cast of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is stacked full of Hollywood stars. Legendary actress Meryl Streep is providing the voice of Aslan the Lion (not without controversy this as Aslan is traditionally male), who creates Narnia. Greta said she chose Meryl because she wanted a voice that projected wisdom, didn’t have any pretention and ability to convey deep emotion.
Other stars include Daniel Craig – of James Bond and Knifes Out fame – who plays Uncle Andrew, Carey Mulligan, who plays Digory’s mother and Emma Mackey as Jadis, the future White Witch and last Queen of Charn.
Meanwhile David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell have been cast as Digory and Polly respectively.
Who is behind the movie?
Greta is directing the movie. She is also a producer and wrote the script for it. Her star has been on the rise for years, but she went into the A-league when she directed Barbie, one of the biggest movies of 2023, for which she was nominated for an Oscar.
Meanwhile Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt are in charge of the music for the movie. The pair also worked on the soundtrack to the Barbie movie, so they have previous experience of working with Greta.
Have there been previous adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia?
There were three Chronicles of Narnia movies released earlier this century. In 2005, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was released, grossing $745 million at the global box office. Two sequels followed in 2008 and 2010, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader respectively, but they were not as successful and the franchise was quietly parked afterwards.
For older viewers, a BBC adaptation of the Narnia books in the 1990s is particularly fondly remembered.
When can we see Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew at the theater?
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will be in theaters – including IMAX – on February 12, 2027. The movie will then land on Netflix on April 2. Initially, the movie was scheduled for release around Thanksgiving this year (and a Netflix debut at Christmas) but was put back to ensure it could have a wider theatrical release. this is set to be the biggest theatrical release for a Netflix movie.
