DC Studios has confirmed that it is developing a live-action version of its popular Teen Titans team.
Ana Nogueira has been brought on board to write the script for the film. She will be very busy for the coming months as she has already been commissioned to pen the script for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for DC.
The film is the latest to be announced in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, which already includes 2025’s Superman and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (but not The Batman II, which is stand-alone).
As the film is in the early stages, nothing about the content of the film has been confirmed, including which line-up of the Titans will be used.
The Teen Titans have been a fixture in the DC canon since the 1960s. They were first introduced as the sidekicks of various established DC heroes. The original line-up included Robin, Superboy, Kid Flash and Wondergirl.
It wasn’t until the 1980s that the series sold in great numbers, and by then what is considered the most recognisable line-up had been put in place, including Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire and Raven. Since then, various line-ups of the Titans have been used in the DC comics.
There have also been popular cartoon series, both with the 1980s line-up in place. The first, which ran from 2003 to 2006 was dramatic in its content.
This was followed in 2013 by Teen Titans Go! This comedic version of the Titans has been hugely popular – nearly 400 episodes have been produced to date – and even spawned its own movie in 2018.
There was also a previous live action version of the Titans, which was seen on MBO Max as well as DC’s streaming service and ran for four seasons.
In the comics, the Titans have grown older – they are no longer teens – and the current run involves the classic 1980s line up.
