Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks with Universal Films to play a lead role in the upcoming Jurassic Park franchise reboot, which is apparently being fast-tracked to the cinemas next year.

The Hollywood Reporter has said that Universal Films has set a release date of July 2, 2025, for the film, which has Gareth Edwards on board as director, and David Koepp writing the script – he wrote the original 1993 Jurassic Park script and its 1997 sequel, The Lost World. If the release date is accurate, it would mean there would be a tight turnaround time for filming and production – shooting isn’t supposed to start until late July.

This latest instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise is reportedly a complete reboot, with a fresh roster of characters. However, plot details have not been released yet.

The most recent trilogy, which began in 2015 with Jurassic World and concluded in 2022 with Jurassic World Dominion, starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and was a continuation from the original trilogy, which ran from 1993-2001. Indeed, stars such as Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neil reprised their roles from the original films.

Jurassic World was a huge box office success, grossing $1.6 billion globally. It was followed by Fallen Kingdom and finally Jurassic World Dominion, which grossed just over $1 billion.

If a deal is agreed, it would see Johansson return to the world of big-budget franchises, having played Black Widow in numerous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past 15 years. Johansson is also set to star in Apple TV+ film Project Artemis this year, as well as providing a voice to the animated prequel film Transformers One.
