- Courtney Cox, who has starred in all six previous Scream films, in talks to star in seventh instalment of franchise
- Neve Campbell has recently been confirmed as returning to the franchise, having missed Scream VI
- No dates released for when it will hit theaters

Courtney Cox, who has played Gail Weathers in all six films in the Scream series, is in talks to reprise the role in the upcoming seventh film, according to reports.
Variety and others have said Cox is in negotiations over the role, which she has played over a span of 27 years since the first film was released in 1996.
If Cox were to sign on for Scream VII it would be another fillip for the franchise after it was recently confirmed that Neve Campbell would be returning for its seventh outing. Campbell had played Sidney Prescot in the first five films but was absent from 2023’s Scream VI due to a contract dispute.
The film has had a troubled recent past. Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter in the two most recent Scream films, was dropped from the cast, allegedly over comments about the Israel-Gaza conflict. Soon after, Jenna Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter in the latest two films, also dropped out as she couldn’t commit the time to the film among her other roles, such as in Wednesday.
Christopher Langdon, who had been slated to direct the film also pulled out late last year, saying on social media that the job had turned into “a nightmare.” Scream’s creator and writer, Kevin Williamson, has since been confirmed as director – the first time he will have directed one of the films.
Plot details have yet to be released but will probably follow the format of the previous six, with Ghostface bumping off various cast members before a final battle.
The release date of Scream VII hasn’t been announced, but with the problems experienced so far, it is not expected to arrive in theaters until 2025.
