The Tesla Cybertruck finally made it onto the roads just a few months ago – but already owners are reporting that some vehicles are malfunctioning.
The Cybertruck, which starts at $80,000, went on sale in November 2023 in North America – two years behind schedule. The futuristic looking vehicle has been long hyped by Tesla’s owner, Elon Musk, but its development was plagued with delays.
The battery electric vehicle has generated many column inches over the years since it was first introduced as a concept vehicle in 2019. With its angular body shape and stainless steel panels, it looks like nothing else on the market.
Now some owners have taken delivery of the vehicle, the complaints have started, with various owners taking to social media and places like The Tesla Owner’s Club forum to air their grievances.
In one post – first reported by Jalopnik – an owner based in Southern California complained that his truck only made it a mile down the road on his first drive in it before it broke down. “Started getting steering error, flashing red screen, pulled off side of highway now the truck is dead.”
The user adding that the local dealer couldn’t help with the problem.
Another user complained of having warnings flashing up advising of a critical steering issue, while a third reported the autopilot feature malfunctioning, and making a hard brake stop when it wasn’t needed – the user added it was fortunate there wasn’t another vehicle following behind or it would have caused a collision.
Thus far, Tesla has not commented on the reports.
