With the much-anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson in doubt after the latter suffered a ‘medical emergency’ on a flight, the former has issued an update.

The bout was thrown into doubt on Sunday when Tyson, 57, needed medical attention while travelling on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

Fight on

This worrying news inevitably meant some were questioning if Tyson would be fit enough to make the fight, which is set for July.

But Paul took to X – formerly Twitter – to quash any talk that the fight was off. “You love to make **** up before knowing the facts for clicks/likes. Nothing’s changed,” he wrote.

Tyson’s team has also been quick to say that the legendary heavyweight will be fit to fight, saying the emergency was caused by a fault on the plane. A statement issued to the Daily Mirror in the UK confirmed that Tyson was “doing great” and that he “became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare 30 minutes before landing.”

Anticipated bout

While both camps are bullish, it will be a worry for fans. Tyson will be 58 when the bout – which has been officially sanctioned – takes place against his much younger opponent.

The fight between Tyson and Paul is scheduled to take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – the 80,000-seat home of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team – on July 20. Streaming service Netflix has the rights to air the fight – the first time it will show live boxing – and it will not be a pay-per-view event.
