- One of the star voice actors has dropped hints the franchise is set to return
- The first Ice Age film was released in 2022, with four films plus a spinoff following
- No official confirmation that a new movie in the series is planned

One of the most beloved animated movie franchises of the 21st century could be heading back to our screens, according to one of its stars.
John Leguizamo, who has played Sid since 2002 in the films, has seemingly let the cat out of the bag that a new addition to the series is in the works.
Apparent confirmation
In an interview with NPR on its Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me! Podcast, Leguizamo said: “They are about to do Ice Age 6.”
There have been five films in the Ice Age series. The first was released in 2002, with Collision Course, which came out in 2016, the most recent in the main franchise. In 2022, a spinoff movie, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, was released on Disney+, and doesn’t feature most of the cast from the previous movies.
However, there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Disney, which owns the franchise, that a new film is coming. But at the time of Buck Wild, a Disney+ production document said another film was in development.
Big franchise
If a new Ice Age movie is in the works, it will be the first that will not be animated by Blue Sky Studios. The studio was closed by Disney in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. For Buck Wild, 20th Century Animation and Bardel Entertainment took over the production.
The films, which follow the adventures of a group of animal friends during the Ice Age, has grossed more than $6 billion at the global box office, making it one of the biggest movie franchises of all time.
