- Swift now has 30 Moon Men to her name after another haul on Wednesday night
- Beyonce has 26 awards as a solo act and 30 overall
- Swift became the first artist to win the Video of the Year award five times
Taylor Swift had another record breaking night this week, scooping seven gongs at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In doing so, Swift became the most successful solo artist in VMA history, surpassing Beyonce’s previously held record of 26 solo wins, soaring to 30 in the process. Beyonce does hold 30 Moon Men altogether, however, after scooping another four with Destiny’s Child and Jay-Z over the years.
Swift took home the awards for Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration (with Post Malone), Best Pop, Song of the Summer (again with Malone), Best Editing, Best Direction and Video of the Year for Fortnight (bringing up a hat-trick with Malone). Her Video of the Year award took her to five in total – a record for the show.
Taking to the stage to accept the Video of the Year award, Swift shouted out Post Malone, for who she dueted with on Fortnight as well as “my boyfriend Travis Kelce,” who was “cheering and woo-ing from across the studio where we were shooting. I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot because I will always remember that.”
Swift then went onto thank her fans, saying thank you for “making my life what it is, for making the Eras Tour what it’s become and for making The Tortured Poet’s Department what it’s become.”
Before departing, Swift reiterated what she had said on Instagram a day earlier, where she had endorsed Kamala Harris for this year’s US Presidential election, by encouraging people to register to vote.
“If you are 18, please register to vote. It’s an important election.”
Swift has since drawn the ire of Republicans, including Trump himself, and Elon Musk, who offered to, erm, impregnate the Eras phenomenon in one of the creepiest tweets ever commited to the internet (just think about the ground that covers), with her endorsement of Harris, as it is believed Swift’s seal of approval could help swing some momentum and votes the Democrats way in what is expected to be a historically tight election.
