- Final trailer for much-anticipated Venom: The Last Dance has dropped
- It confirms that symbiote God Knull will appear
- Plenty of other plotlines are hinted at too
The final trailer ahead of the release of Venom: The Last Dance has dropped – and gives us a first look at the main villain in the film, which will excite fans.
First look at villain
The trailer opens with Eddie and Venom atop and airplane, fighting a terrifying-looking alien, who is out to get our titular anti-hero.
“Who sent that thing?” asks Eddie. “My creator,” replies Venom. By creator, Venom means Knull, and we get a brief glimpse of him in the trailor, sat on a throne with long white hair and taloned fingers.
Knull is familiar to those who read Marvel comics. A God, he created various alien races, including the symbiotes. While he didn’t make his debut in the comics fully until 2018, he has since been established as one of the most powerful supervillains in the Marvel canon. In the comics he has clashed with Venom, but also Thor and the Silver Surfer.
We also see the scientists testing on symbiote samples again – they were shown in the first trailer too. “The symbiote didn’t come here by accident, they were running,” says one. Another hint to the plot.
The trailer pans to Detective Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham), who has featured previously in the series and is imbued with a symbiote named Toxin, and who has evidently been captured by the scientists.
Last outing
Then there is an ominous line: “There comes a time in every man’s life… when he must make a sacrifice.”
But what does that mean? Will Eddie, or Venom – or both – end up making the ultimate sacrifice of their lives?
This is reckoned to be the last outing for Eddie and Venom – Sony Motion Picture Group chair Tom Rothman said so in May – although you never know if there will be a reboot. And, of course, as every comic book fan knows, death is not necessarily the end for a character.
If all this has whetted your appetite, you don’t have long to wait to see the full movie. Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on October 25.
