In the last few years, Britney Spears has become free of her conservatorship, her latest marriage – and now, it seems, her child support payments.

The pop star, 42, has been sending the payments to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, for the last 17 years, so that he could care for their children Sean Preston, who turns 19 this week, and Jayden James. The total bill is thought to have reached over $5 million.

But after Jayden reached his 18th birthday on September 12, Spears was said to be free of the commitment – and fans celebrated in a very funny way.

Followers of the singer have been streaming and buying her 2013 track Work Bitch, in a show of solidarity to Spears – and to send a message to Federline, who occasionally works as a DJ.

The song was originally released in 2013, and peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, thanks to her loyal following’s dedication, Work Bitch entered the top 30 pop songs on the US iTunes chart on September 12 – and the corresponding video reached number 11.

But maybe fans were too hasty…

However, despite the joy from her fans, it has also been reported that Spears will be paying child support for a little while longer.

According to TMZ, the original order agreed upon in the divorce stated that child support payments would cease on the 18th birthday of Jayden, the youngest son, or when he graduates high school – whichever comes later.

The outlet learned that Jayden will graduate early from high school in Hawaii in November, so the child support payments will continue until then.

So while streaming support from her fans may have come a touch too early – with Spears having to pay another two months of fees to Federline – it’s never a bad idea to listen to Work, Bitch.
