While the rest of the world couldn’t wait for Sabrina Carpenter’s much-anticipated sixth album, we’re sure a couple of people were less than pleased when the record dropped in August.
Camila Cabello found herself in a media storm when a few of the pint-sized popstar’s songs appeared to be about her short fling with Cabello’s ex, Shawn Mendes, 26 – and his relationship with the Cuban singer.
And now, Cabello has seemingly addressed the controversy.
Joining Alex Cooper onstage at the podcaster’s Call Her Daddy tour, the pair played a lively game of Never Have I Ever in front of an audience.
When Cooper prompted Cabello, “Never have I ever had a song written about me,” Cabello responded, “You know what, I have been lucky to contribute in many ways to the great music of the 21st century.
“Sometimes I have written them. Sometimes they have been written about me. You’re welcome, motherf******.”
‘We don’t play about each other’
Earlier this month, Mendes opened up about his relationship with the Havana singer, 27.
“Honestly, I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private little fire of love for each other,” he explained. “Because no matter how strong mentally you are when there are millions of people commenting on it, it’s so hard not to be affected by it and to be swayed by it and to be inspired by it.
“[Social media] is honestly too detrimental to the actual relationship itself that I’ve become pretty strict on that part of it. We’re not in a movie. This is not a movie… This is real life. This is real love and love is confusing and hard and goes through dips, goes through pauses, goes through breaks.”
Mendes continued, “I’ll be the first to text her. She’ll be the first to text me. So as long as we’re good, all the noise is just noise,” he said, adding of respecting one another in the media, “I don’t think either of us would ever cross a line. We deeply respect each other.
“I’m just lucky she’s an amazing human being and she’s incredibly understanding and thoughtful and caring.”
Mendes expanded even more on his comments when the interview was released.
When one Twitter/X user commented “they don’t play about each other” on a clip of the interview, Mendes confirmed, “No, we don’t.”
Cabello and Mendes began their relationship in 2019 and continued it for another two years – but then in a joint statement on November 18, 2021, the pair announced their split.
However, on April 23 last year, Mendes and Cabello were seen locking lips at Coachella festival. Fans were overjoyed by the reconciliation, but it wasn’t meant to be.
However, Carpenter was also linked to Mendes for around a month from February last year.
