While we know Knull, the god of the symbiotes, will face off against Venom in Venom: The Last Dance, it may not be the last time we see the villain, the movie’s director has hinted.

Doing justice

The upcoming third – and apparently final – Venom film will introduce this powerful villain to the universe. But Venom: The Last Dance director and co-writer, Kelly Marcel, has said he could be back. In an interview with IGN, Marcel said: “One movie could never do justice to Knull.”

Knull is familiar to those who read the Venom comics. A God, he created various alien races, including the symbiotes. While he didn’t make his debut in the comics fully until 2018, he has since been established as one of the most powerful supervillains in the Marvel canon. In the comics he has clashed with Venom, but also Thor and the Silver Surfer. He is briefly seen in one of the trailers for Venom: The Last Dance.

Marcel explained that Knull hadn’t been introduced to the Venom films before because the foundations were being laid in the development of the relationship between Venom and Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy). “Just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull,” Marcel added. “The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done’. Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time.”

Future hints

Marcel’s comments raise plenty of questions about where Knull may appear next – Marvel is also developing Doctor Doom as a villain for the Avengers – and which MCU hero – or anti-hero – he could come up against.

You will be able to find out what happens with Knull, and Venom and Eddie, when Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on October 25.
