- Stars to appear in film about couple in a Neil Diamond tribute band
- The film has just begun production
- Movie is based on a true story featured in a 2008 documentary

Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson have just started production on a new movie where they play a couple who form a Neil Diamond tribute act.
Based on a true story
The stars have begun work in musical drama Song Sung Blue, according to Variety. The movie also includes Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi and Michael Imperioli in the cast.
Song Sung Blue – named after a 1972 Diamond track – is based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina. The couple were struggling musicians until they became a Neil Diamond tribute act called ‘Lightning and Thunder’. They were profiled in a 2008 documentary, also called Song Sung Blue, by Greg Kohs.
Craig Brewer has written the film and is also directing and producing. John David and John Fox are also on production duties.
Both Jackman and Hudson have been pushing their singing recently. Jackman has an upcoming residency at Radio City Music Hall, where he will sing songs from films such as The Greatest Showman. Hudson meanwhile released her debut album Glorious back in May to general critical acclaim.
Worldwide hits
Neil Diamond has sold more than 130 million records worldwide in a career that has spanned some 60 years. Some of his songs have become iconic, such as ‘Sweet Caroline’ and ‘Song Sung Blue’.
With production at an early stage, no timeline has been given on when the movie might hit theaters. It will remain to be seen if it hits the commercial heights of Jackman’s last film, Deadpool & Wolverine, which has grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the biggest R-rated movie of all time.
