- The Marvel juggernaut has surpassed The Joker as the most successful R-Rated film in history
- The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman blockbuster has made $1,085.6bn in just 23 days
- Disney now have the two top box office spots for the year after the success of Inside Out 2
It may only have been in cinemas for a little over three weeks, but Deadpool & Wolverine has already become the highest grossing R-Rated film of all time.
In just 23 days, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman led Blockbuster has amassed a staggering $1,085.6bn at the box office, replacing Joker atop the list, which grossed $1.079bn after its release in October 2019.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the third movie of the Deadpool franchise, following on from the 2016 original, which grossed $782.6m and its 2018 sequel, which brought in $785.8m. The film takes place six years after the second instalment, following Reynolds’ Wade Wilson as he struggles after returning to normal life as a car salesperson and seeks out the help of Wolverine.
The film has received widespread attention for the vast number of cameos it includes, with Channing Tatum’s Gambit gaining particular notoriety for wanting to make a name for himself.
I don’t know about any of you, but I for one have been saying “Woo, I’m aboutta make a name for maself here” every time I walk into a room for the last three weeks. If the Gambit movie does indeed finally get greenlit off the back of this, let it just be two hours of Channing Tatum saying that line over and over again as he visits different places where he is about to make a name for himself.
Following the monstrous success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Disney now occupy the top two slots for 2024’s highest grossing films, with Inside Out 2 earning an eye watering $1.597bn.
Reynolds has said he is unsure as to whether he will reprise the Deadpool role for a future film in the franchise, although given the all conquering size of the MCU, it’s hard to believe he won’t return in some way, shape or form in the next few years.
